both of them trucks are nice, and fast ,but at them speeds something will break , you could get an associated t4 rtr or losi or any other brand and up grade to brushless for the budget you have set aside

the speed-t's front end is really week and the motor is stupid fast, but get what u want to get

i'm in the same boat as you champ. But deciding between HPI's E-Firestorm Flux or the Speed T. But for what you want (light offroad racing) its best that you go with the Speed T as the chassis sits a bit lower to the ground.
