B44 is a much better buggy then the XXX-4 , if Losi still made all the aluminum pivot mounts I`d say the XXX-4 would be better . Hopefully Losi will have a new 4wd sometime soon .

Dakotah Phend just won the Super Stock 4wd Triple-A Main at the ROAR Nats using an XXX-4, against fast dudes running Kyoshos, Hot Bodies D4s, and AE B44s....so the old girl's not dead yet!!!

Losi does need to release a new electric 4WD though. 2004 was a long time ago...

Hey,

Over the years in 4wd I've run Yokomo yz10, xx4, Pred (horrible build quality), xxx4, X5, and now B44.

The xx4 and more so the X5 had their good points, the X5 really built on the way the XX4 handled and jumped.

But for a car to live with, ie run every week and wrench in the B44 is so much better.

MiCk B. :-)

Associated's B4 is even older, it's running 5+ years now right? Well, how would you change a race-proven design (and convince the buyers that they need a newer model)?

Losi does need an updated 4 wheel drive... Something akin to the TRF501x style, with saddle-style and beefed up suspension arms (have you guys seen the 501x A-arms? they are super beefy!)

But I don't know, people have been asking for the XX-4WE and Horizon answered the call by re-releasing it... But still, I see more XXX-4 G+ at my track then XX-4 WE nowadays...

There are a few XXX-4 guys at my track and they are fast. As for parts breakage, they all break. Some days, I break about 4 front a-arm on my B44, some days, I break none.

It's still winning races though, the XXX-4 isn't. I had XXX-4's (one G+ one plastic) and they both broke like crazy, they handled OK but in my opinion if you can't even finish a race without breaking, handling doesn't mean a thing.

The B44 looks great from what i have seen, the only thing I don't like is the saddle battery packs but you can't ask for it all.

The XXX-4 is an older car.. ya.. so? It still comes down to the driver.. We have every 4wd off-road running at our local track.. They can all win.

The only things I don't like about the B44 is it's hard to get a wrench to take the motor out and the gears.. People are always going through spurs and the beveled tranny gears.. At least once a night we hear the familiar grind of a B44 in a heat race or main. Other than that, it's a good car.

Nothing wrong with older cars if they work. All the bugs are known and fixes are available. We have several guys running XX-4 Losi cars at our track!

Have fun!

xxx4 IS still winning races--at least on the local level. Its not really hindered once you do some steering bellcrank/rack mods and find some of the alloy to beef it up. XX4 is super dialed but can be sort of tough to live with if you don't set the belts and diffs right. With the CR arms and hubs on it it can hang with any modern 4wd car.

I would say the zx5 sp is a better car than the b44--and I hear the new FS saddle conversion is even better. SP is easier to drive fast, more rear bite and steers just as much. Plus you can put your nice stick Lipos in it. One reason I still like my xxx4.

the xxx4 is so far behind that had to bring back the XX-WE b/c that was a great car that could deal w/many US tracks. ae took their time and got the car right.

Yeah, but that's Dakotah, You could give that kid the biggest POS in the history of POS's and the results would have been the same. Having run with him for a while locally in both the mars seriesand ftms series here in michigan, i will tell you that the kid is one of the most consistant wheels EVER.The only time the kid doesnt win is if his car breaks!! GO Dakotah!!!!

I haven't had any issues with the beveled gears, but the spurs? Oh yeah. I thought I was the only one chewing up the spurs... It all started when I dropped in a brushless system... Even properly meshed (the paper trick), the spurs still seems to be on a path of wear and tear...

Anyone else experience this in their B4/T4? They're made of the same material, but I guess in a 4wd, there's much more loading on the spur gear since it's trying to drive two transmissions...
