Default Thinking abot going lipo and don`t know a thing about them .

I`ve been talking to a few people and think it`s time to get rid of my Nimh batts .
What is the difference between a 25C battery and a 30C battery ?

Was thinking about getting an Orion 3800mAh LiPo Carbon Edition 7.4v Battery, 30C, hard case

Will this fit in my XXX-CR and XXX-T CR ?

A guy at the track said you can run the battery and then put it on the charger right away . You don`t need to let lipos cool down , like nimh ? So I can charge it , run a heat , charge it , and run another ? They need to be charged 1C , right ?

Yes to all of your questions.
Buy one good battery, charger and balancer and you are set.

I use this balancer for all my lipos, you can get adapters for any style tap.
http://rclipos.com/TP205V.htm
here is a very good battery that will plug directly into the balancer.

How often do you need to balance a lipo ?

Is the MaxAmps Method Balancer a good one ?

What is the difference between 25C and 30C ?
I also see some lipos with another plug with wires , that for balancing ?
I also see some with that plug and others without it .

Once you switch you will never want to go back.

The only class I run a NIMH in is a spec class where it is required.

Here, I just started making the transition to LiPo and had a ton of questions myself, got a lot of good answers & some links to articles on using LiPo packs & equipment:

If you decide to go with the Orion Lipo you will not have to balance it for the most part. Find someone that will let you check your battery because more then likely it won't be out of balance.

As far as the 25c and 30c, that tells you how much the battery can put out under load. The higher the number the higher the discharge it can go under load.

for orion and trakpower style batteries that have that port setup for balancing, you can get a premade adapter from www.rclipos.com . I believe you just look under balancers.

After reading that thread that OTE posted, please post any more questions you have and people here will be more than happy to help. I was in the same boat as you onetime, and was going with a bigger battery setup (4S) for a 1/8 scale conversion.

once you get the hang of lipos, they are really easy to take care of properly.

Wth, a 2s 5400 mAh 20C hard-cased Lipo battery that weighs only 157 grams!?? This can't be right! Most hard-cased 2s 5Ah Lipos I've seen are about 250-300 grams.

Is it true or just a mistake? Maybe it should've been 257 grams, a typo?

So I take it this doesn't strike anyone else as even a little strange? Hmm, okay then.

The weight can be very different depending on the way the batts are covered (hard shell vs soft vinyl). Also the material inside the cells can be quite different.

Are you saying you think that battery really weighs only 157 grams? It's hard-cased, 5400 mAh and 2S.

Some comparisons of other well-known hard-cased batteries:
TrakPower 4900 2S Lipo - 268g
Team Orion Platinum Edition 4800 2S Lipo - 285g
Enerland Racing PQ-5000MXQ 5000 2S Lipo - 296g

Can it really be that much of a difference?
