i can tell ya anything as far as balancers but you'd probably be best with the novak lipo cut off.

and as far as the pack, your options are pretty open, go with what brand you prefer and which C rating you want. the trackpowers are gold bling (if that matches anything), orions have the carbon case and are light. checkpoints are made with trackpower cells, so they are essentially the same thing.
also, it may depend on which balancer you get for the correct balancing port

I am thinking about getting the Trakpower 4900 25c pack. How much of a difference in performance will I see over my EP4200?

And should I use the Trakpower V Balancer with it?

Jeromek99's post above did a good job explaining things as far as nimh v. lipo power.

while you wont have the peak punch of a nimh pack, your voltage will remain the same throughout the whole pack and you will have a bunch more run time.

and he also made a good point of them taking a while to charge, but again, unlike nimh packs you dont need them to fully peak, if you have already put a bunch of MAH back into the lipo its fine
for example, youll start your charge at 4.5A and throughout the charge it steps down, so if its down at like .4A and your heat is up, just pull it and itll be fine.

and as long as that balancer will work with your charger then yes.

How does it go down in amps through the charge?

It just does. Do you have a lipo charger? Id go with the trakpower if I were you because it gives you plenty of run time and punch. The orion gives you punch but not as much run time. For the extra $40 its worth the big dawg. The lipo will kill any Nimh batt including 4600's. They just got way more rip and punch. If you dont have a lipo cut off just make sure you dont run the car longer then 20 minutes and make sure its always charged. If you dont have a lipo charger and sack you mine as well just stick to Nimh for the time being.

Also you dont need a lipo balancer. IVe ran and charged my lipo over 20 times and there still completely balanced. My hobby shop said its really not needed. The cut off also doesn't need to be purchased just make sure you dont run the battery low. You can tell when it falls off. Just pull off the track and get it back on the charger. It will be twice as long as any nimh anyways!

the orion 3600 or 3800 r the way to go with the equinox balencer. The higher ur discharge rate the easier it is to get thrown out of balence. I balence mine every month or 2

Yes I have a lipo charger. A duratrax Onyx 230. I will get a lipo sack when I can afford it. I want to get a LVC just in case then when I get the money get a balancer.

I want to get a LVC just to be safe because I dont want my $120 investment to not charge anymore. I will get a balancer when I can afford it.

I also see that it says it will hold up for 100+ race cycles and 200+ practice cycles. I thought that lipo packs lasted more than nimh packs?

Careful there; that is going to be dependent on the packs you're using. Some packs will go out of balance very quickly.

For what its worth, I've been very happy with the Maxamps 6000s I've got. 25+ minutes on a brushless 7.5L is hard to beat.

I really love both of my Orion LiPos (3200 Carbon and 4800 Platinum). The 4800 is a little on the chunky side and barely fits in my XXX-BK2 and I had to but a little block on the side of my XXX-4 so it wouldn't slide out the side. The 4800 is flat on both sides while the 3200 has ridges that simulate the roundness of batteries.

Don't worry too much about the C rating.. It is just for the discharge peak.. I have used my 15C 4800 with 3.5 brushless with no problem. It actually is rated 30C peak (for 10sec).

Actually I really love the 3200 more.. nice fit in all my cars, decent runtime (same as 4200NiMh) and easy to take care of.

That 3600 Orion should be sweet!

Make sure your charger has the Constant Current/Constant Voltage (CC/CV) profile and you should be good!

How do I know if it has Constant Current/Constant Voltage (CC/CV) profile?

I have a Duratrax Onyx 230.

I was looking at videos and I heard that the white plug is suppose to be a balancer port which you plug the balancer into. I dont think the Trakpower 4900 2s pack(which I am getting) has one of those. So how do I balance them?
