Default Novak gtx installation help

I just got a used gtx esc that is in very good condition for $45. But on the red wire that goes to the motorin the middle there is another red wire that is soldered on. Why is it like this and is it suppose to be like this or what? thanks

yes the red wire is Y'ed to the battery and the motor. I have 2 GTX's set up this way. there is another way you can wire them i think in the instructions but this is the way ive seen them all done.

ok, it just seems a little short. So the black wire goes into the negative part of the battery?

yep, black to negative. Depending on what type of vehicle the gtx was wired for, the wires may be short. Like a touring car where the speedo sits right next to the motor will have short leads compared to what you would need for a truck or buggy. Worse case is the rewire or lengthen the wires.

There is a wiring diagram in the instructions. I hope you have them since you need to know how to make changes in the settings of the ESC. They are available on the Novak website. I have four GTXs and that was all I used until I switched all but one to brushless, now have XBRs.

The manual I got was black and white and really hard to read. I think it was a copy. I will look on novak's website. So is this the best racing esc on the market and will it improve performance via less resistence from my 7 year old Novak explorer 2?

You should notice a smoother transition in power and much better brakes! It's pretty much top of the line for brushed motor ESCs.

I'm not part of the tech support/engineering department, but here are some definitions of these terms from the Novak website:
