Time to go brushless. You'll love it! You should be able to snag a Sidewinder combo on here for less than $100. I love the Peak/Orion brushless first-gen motors, very torquey and cool running with the internal fan, but they don't cooperate at all with the Castle Creations ESC's.

Well, I would but I don't have enough cash. Right now I'm trying to get a 27T to work in it, but the 27T is dying too. I'll probably just work on cleaning up the rustler, then around Christmas I'll get a brushless system.

Hey, does anyone want a TC3? I have one for sale! I could sell that to get the brushless system.

So kavvika, what kind of bl system is good for me? I'm a racer and a basher, so I would run in the mod class with a bl. I would like a velineon system, but I'm not sure which system's riight for me.

Default Custom made motor cooling system

Would anyone like me to explain the designs for my custom made motor cooling system?

TCRacer: I've never used the Mamba Max motors, so I can't speak from experience regarding them. For a complete combo, you can't go wrong with the VXL. It's very smooth, has no external power switch to mess with mounting, and redesigned version has motor wire pigtails so you can change the plug size and don't have to deal with breaking the board-mounted female plugs off anymore. Also, the ESC is quite large, as is the motor. The motor has a very low Kv, but is considered "m" sized, so it has loads of torque. Some say the LVC comes on too early and I have experience a sort of "stalling" when I'm only goosing the throttle while under load, like rock climbing or on grass, and the truck stops and the throttle needs to be returned to neutral before it will start again.

With the Sidewinder, you can find it for under $50 used, which is a smoking deal. But you'll need to program it with throttle trigger commands, which can be a bit confusing and a small hassle if you need to make alot of adjustments. Then you have to deal with the power switch. I find it slightly less smooth than my VXL when powering a first-gen Peak Vantage 10.5Bl motor.

I suppose the decision would come down to what you can find for sale on these forums and how good of a price it is. And you can't go wrong piecing yourself together a system, or buying both and selling the one you like least. Also, does mod class require sensored BL, or can you run sensorless?

I sold my Mamba Max ESC before I really got to use it, so I have no real opinions on that.

when i was driving my XL-5 on cement i noticed that when i turned at medium to full speed the rear wheels leaned (when i turn right they lean right and when i turn left they lean left) is it supposed to do that?
oh and the wheel nuts are as tight as i can get them

so i have no idea what to do

Don't worry, that's normal.

skippi: Like TCRacer said, that is normal. The chassis rolls (leans) in the corners, and since the stub axle remains parallel to the chassis, the wheels lean as well. You can tune some of that out if you swap the stock rear bearing carriers for Nitro Rustler carriers, which hold the camber link up higher, causing less wheel roll which keeps them more perpendicular to the ground during turns.

But does wheel roll impair the trucks racing ability?

Yes, which is why Truggy racers use anti-swaybars to keep the chassis more parallel to the ground. It does look a bit goofy watching the wheel gain camber as you manually compress the suspension, and probably isn't the best geometry, but you can read more about it here.
