Default Speed controllers

Im very new to electric so learning as I can. I picked my son up a MF1 XXX-t today from a buddy that is all set up. He was previously driving a Evader EXT.

I put a Novak GTX in his Evader and the Losi came with a LRP V7.1. They both are no motor limit. The GTX can use a lipo if used with a Smart-stop Li-Po Module, I cant find if the LRP can be used with lipo. Dont really matter right now as he is only using Nimh. Is 1 really better then the other or is it another Chevy vs Ford debate? Any help would be appreciated.

Both can be used with a novak cut off and they are both about equal in terms of performance.
