Ryan Cavalieri in RCCA interview.

That doesn't make any sense, but I'm assuming that you are trying to say that someone without a degree may have just as much experience in a field, thus making them equally as qualified as someone with a degree.
I don't dispute this. But tell me, where does a 21 year old acquire such an expansive amount of knowledge in the field of engineering?

Inaddition lets hire people with GED's to build our bridges, subways, roads, buildings, cars, planes, boats, computers, and toy cars !!!
My goodness andrew i knew you were basher when we are traveling to different states racing. You bringing your t-maxx to crcrc ? If so bring your laptop we can go over some designs for the next bj4 copy....

Look at Kinwald, the dude is a master of modifications, and I dont think he has an engineering degree but many regard him as one of the most innovative players in the RC industry.
All Im saying is that just because he didnt spend 50k to go to a 4 year school and get a paper saying hes an engineer doesnt mean he doesnt have the knowledge required as those that have gone to school. I know many people that fall into that category.

#153

Yea especially since he was home schooled.

Way to go overboard on the comparisons. RC cars = building bridges now? Only coming from you I suppose.
Oh and there are different types of engineers, so far you said RC should be an aeronautical, marine, electric and mechanical engineer. Good call.

Engineer? LOL!!! What a joke. The kid cannot even speak at an age appropriate level
I bet he still reads comic books and Hardy Boys novels.
...doesn't his dad setup his cars for him? You expect him to know about moment arms and stress concentrations????

And it takes more than an Mechanical Engineer to design a car. There are tons of factors involved (not that i've even tried to set-out and design one myself).
Look a Quagraine...its taken him what, 3 years, and he still hasn't finished it....all while getting his degree.

steak would be good right now
I dont think you need a degree to drive fast and to tell the real engineers what you think is wrong with your car, how it is handling and how it can go faster..... it is called experience guys
the pros dont design the car, engineers do, the pro drivers give thier input on how the car feels when he drives it, and changes can be made based on his feel when he drives it or based on telemetry units some manufacturer have . this is a full time job and not even considering that they race every weekend all over the US
let me put it this way - let us have an engineer (whatever kind you want) and have him drive a regular joe's car and let us ask him how he can make it faster..
will this information be more important (bec of his 6-7yr schooling) than what a RC pro can tell you
I have alot of respect for the pros bec of thier skills, respect for my fellow racers just for being there and enjoying the hobby
we cant stereotype all pros to be like one driver we misinterpreted or we dont like
just my 2 cents

I'm saving up for a laser eye surgery machine.

Engineering and R/C car tuning are completely different things, they are equally important to the product that the company winds up making, but completely different. Cav is not an engineer, honorary or otherwise. He would probably be the first to correct you on this.
An engineering degree (or just about any other degree) is far more than a piece of paper. Nobody that has a degree would say something like that.

Wow....this thread officially sucks now.
Give the KID a break. He is not even here to defend himself. What things are for sure.....He is talented,he's not an engineer,he is very helpful to other racers at big races,he may not think before he speaks or realize what he says is important because it can be taken out of CONTEXT,he's doesn't like to lose,he's competitive by nature,HE'S an F'N HUMAN!

He is not an engineer. He is a driver. Most team Ass. runs the same set-up. Not because they are lazy and don't know anything, it's because it's what works. His dad helps a lot and in more than one way. There is so much envolved in running at his standards. It reall takes a team to run it. Look at any other form of racing. No one ever said that he was a genious. But, you have to admit that he is one of the best in the world. You have to respect him on and off the track.

It sucked from the time i made it, but it's rc cars which makes it cool.
what i have learned from this thread.....
Cavilieri helps EVERYONE !!
Cavalieri is a engineer
Cavalieri is home skooled
Cavalieri's rent is 2,000.00 per month
Cavalieri cannot sing.
Sqc049 is a basher.....

Those who are dissing "the paper" are the very same people who don't have said paper...

#165

Wanna bet? Nobody dissed "the paper" but what I spoke is truth. I know for a fact that people in my field that don't have my degree are far more knowledgable in the field than I am with my "paper." I never said it was a worthless item, but some take the "Oh you don't have a degree in this, so you must know nothing" road and it annoys me immensly.
In fact a good friend of mine is finishing his degree and destroys people in his field with the work he does, and he doesn't have "the paper." So please try not to throw that in my face.
