Default 1/8 novak HV vs feigao 9xl

Today i got in the Novak 4.5t HV system and put it in my 8ight-t, i was runing a 4S lipo off it and after about 4 laps on my track the esc whent up in smoke. my gearing is 13/46, and when i was running it seemed slightly overgeard but not bad at all. Now i am looking to ditch the novak hv and get a Feigao xl motor with a mamba monster max esc.

Any suggestions on the motor, i cant decide weather or not to get the 9xl, or the 8xl, or even the 10xl. what kv should i be looking for? how long can i run at a time? by the way my 8ight-t with everything in it is about 9.2 pounds.

please help..

You should look into a Neu motor. Feigao is cheap and all, but the Neu is a much more efficient motor.

The HV 4.5 motor is rated at 5,000/kv (that's 74,000 RPM's at 14.8 volts. Fully charged a 4S LiPo is 16.8 volts or 84,000 RPM's). That is way too high for a 4S pack. I would run that motor on 3S or you'll need a VERY small pinion to gear it down. Either way I do not think the high KV 4.5 motor was meant for an 1/8th conversion. It is more suited for a MT that has a transmission. If I were going to try out the new HV systems from Novak, I would be all over that new 7.5 motor (3,000/kv) with the 5mm shaft.

Best regards,

My suggestion is a 1512 2.5D or a 2D if you want to push the envelope a little more and you are sure that 4s is the highest voltage you want to do.

With the novak, you should have been running a 9 or 10 tooth pinion or running 3s or both. The Neu motors I mention spin 1/2 the rpms of the Novak so be prepared for that, but they do just fine when geared properly.

Other options:
Feigao 9XL (getting harder to find)
Medusa 36-60 (supposed to be very good, but are also out of stock)
Mega 35 or 45 series (around 2000kv range)
like this one:

Or the $155 one like this: (out of stock)

I've run a Novak 6.5 geared 9-46 in a buggy. Motor hasn't gone over 120 yet and ESC holds around 150 with a fan (but I've only run NiMH packs so far). I can't imagine putting a 13T pinion on a 4.5.

thank you guys so much for the replys, glass, i might get that first one you sent me, the maga mortor with the lower kv. but i was reading the specs and it says "Shaft Size: 5mm (no flat spot)". does that mean i need to grind a groove to use the pinion set screw? and is there any way to cover up the exposed front? i am runing on a dusty track. thanks again for the help

i was looking around on mega motors site and they did a 8ight-t conversion and they recomend using the ACn 22/30/2 for a 4s lipo. should i go with that or go with the 35-45 motor like you said glass?

The bigger motor will handle more without overheating so it's a safe bet. The smaller motor you use the more likely to have temp issues. Those guys seem to know their stuff so I expect their recommended motor would be good.

They also recommend the Medusa 50mm motor, while I'm going to try the 60mm first. If it runs nice and cool for what I do, then I might try the 50mm. But some people are harder on stuff so I don't recommend the smallest or fastest possible motor.

Use a dremel sanding wheel to make a flat spot. It's common for motors to not have one. I had to grind on all 3 of my Neus.

I'm using the Mega ACn22/30/2 in my Mr. C MBX5T with 6S. The little motor rocks.

Btw, your 8ightT is light for an e-truggy. My Jammin CRT is over 10lbs and it's a pretty clean (although homemade) conversion.

For the 2100kv motor you are getting, I would keep the 4s lipo. You can easily stick an 8000 maxamps pack in there for very good runtime, like about 30 minutes if the motor runs anything like mine.
