I am having trouble accessing ROARs site. Can anyone tell me exactly who's motors that are sensorless are legal for Modified class racing? Not worried about the spec classes at this time, just these.

I don't believe anyone makes a sensorless motor that is approved.

Well, you can still get a Mamba, since it's a LEGAL esc and is a better value than the other ESCs out there. However their motors are not legal yet. You can run an orion motor with the Mamba and that's perfectly legal and it will work awesome.

From the 2008 Rule Book:

8.8.1 Sensored or sensorless motors are allowed in modified motor classes. Only sensored type motors are allowed for stock and super stock racing.

8.8.2 The owner shall be able to easily replace the rotor, bearings and front endbell using commonly available tools. These parts shall be available for separate purchases. Ball bearings are allowed.

Don't have a list of the actual approved motors though.

You better believe I'm glad I saved money on my mamba. A sensorless system can power any sensored motor out there & the mamba is now silky smooth.

And this pertains to the topic how??? Oh, and since you want to know, Yup I am glad I did. Nice to have an ESC that is heavy duty enough to be able to do 1/8 scale applications with a slight tweak, or, 1/10 scale without a fan.

Given the reliability record of those brands brushless systems, is this a recommendation or a literal comment regarding their performance?

I think you need to understand what your talking about, If something is more popular and 10/1 people have it you will see more reports of a issue. I guess my 4 race buddy's with 9 spheres between us they are all fine.

Blue is better, didn't you know....

Why do you have such an attitude? How old are you if I may ask, because it seems that 90% of your posts are either downing someone on what they say, own, or ask about.

You need to get off your high horse, last time I checked you didn't own this site or do enough to just go around and be a dick to people.

I'm honestly and sincerely glad that you have had good experiences. Interesting that even your defense essentially acknowledges that they have a lot of failures. Agree that they are popular, so more raw numbers of failures are to be expected, but.... My fairly large LHS has experienced so many blue failures that they talked me out of buying one, so I bought an orange one instead, thinking it must be a safe choice, I mean everybody’s got them right? Which lasted 4 lowly geared warm up laps. No, it wasn't operator error, I'll spare you my technical qualifications, tendency to actually read manuals first, and 20 year RC experience rant, well after now anyway. One local track that regularly has a turnout of 150 has seen a lot of failures, other brands are taking over there. My regular track that includes a couple of national champs and several other seriously sponsored drivers has seen way more than it's share of failures, other brands are now catching on quickly, a lot of interest in my 2nd purchase from an alternative brand (not Mamba). Oh, I do still use the replaced orange job, but I won't bother with it if it dies again. And any thread on this site regarding competitor’s offerings immediately catches a lot of interest. So that's what I understand condensed as best I can.
