Default offroad NOOB

XXX4 gearing for TC guy :P

What is a general gearing for the XXX4 running a 19T on a Med. sized track. Just looking for a starting point.

Awhile back I know someone told me with Mod you should run 8-9 teeth higher then the wind...does that still apply?

Also can someone list or post a link to the spring rates for this car.

Default Overheating

Could too much brake on my transmitter cause my motor to get excessively hot (207 deg) in my xxx-4? Would adjusting the brake on my speed control help? I have not had this problem until the last time I ran it. What does the "brake" actually do to the motor or ESC?

I believe the motor is shorted out for the brake function. You are not talking about drag brake I hope. If you are using drag brake I suggest turning it off because there is enough drag from the belt that it is not needed. Also make sure the duct on the body is opened to allow air to flow over the motor and maybe try going down a tooth on your pinion to bring the motor temp down.

Drag Brake is like a "natural" brake that a brushed motor has when you are gliding/neutral while your car is running. A brushless motor doesn't have this "natural" brake because it doesn't have brushes and therefore there is lesser friction. Drag Brake is usually for brushless motors to illustrate that braking effect w/c a brushed motor has. When you increase drag brake too much, it may strain the motor and can cause overheating.

For anyone that is running a XXX4 with a lipo... did you add lead weight to the car to keep the handling the same or did you make a spring/dampening change?

I was actually talking about the natural braking effect imposed by running a belt driven 4wd. The belt acts like a brake when off throttle. This helps and is a desireable trait. Someone using a shaftdriven 4wd would have to use the drag brake function built into there ESC to mimic this if they want the same effect. The braking effect is much greater than what the brushes cause in a brushed motor.

Hi,
Must people are saying that the XXX-4 is fragile. How fragile is the G+. Are there any common parts that break? How well sealed is the belt?

Cheers

Was that the only part you were breaking on your XXX-4?

Cheers

Thanks Gary.

Didn't realize this car has different length springs....and why did they use some colors twice! :P

I think I have my springs messed up on my car. I have pink on the rear and green in the front and I can't get the front to be "arms level". Would that pretty much happen when you put the longer springs up front?

Is running "arms level" pretty much what offroad guys do for ride height?
