Losi xxx-4
#2296

Hey guys,
I just started xxx4, and I talked w/ local Losi guru who told me 4wd losi isn't very stong. Anyone have different opinion? I don't doubt our local track Losi 'master', but what are the finer points that puts xxx4 below b44?
Thx.

well after running a few ( and still running one ) over the past 9 years this is what i found..
1. double up on the front shock tower
2. the front carriers are weak..i run the bj4 ones
3. the front outdrives snap easy..i run steel ones all around
4. front hing pin brace..if you can find one get the 7.5 it's the best one for the xxx4
5. the rear shock tower..double up on that to
6. run the yellow belt if you don't have it already
7. the front aluminum cvd's are also kinda weak
other than that it's a great buggy. hope this helped out and welcome to the fragele world of 4wd buggy....

At our local track we have just about every 4wd out there racing... XXX-4, XX-4, B44, BJ4, ZX-4 (all versions), D4, Yokomos, Tamiyas and more....
We race'em modified like intended! To tell you the truth.. they all break... Sometimes its just a tap of another car or a pipe.. other times its a hard tumble or smack.
I had one of these years ago when they first came out... and now again I have another I have been racing for awhile now.. It is a good, stable car. The upgraded yellow belt on my G+ is going on over 6 months of racing...
Mod power can break anything... but as much as everybody seems to have such a bad opinion about the XXX-4 mine has taken some serious tumbles and crashing.. but it doesn't break anymore than the others seem to.
The XXX-4 can still compete.. it might take a skilled driver and experienced mechanic to set it up correctly out of the box though...

I agree with a lot of the recent suggections, but I see no point to doubling up either of the shock towers. I have cracked a few of the rear towers, but even when it cracks, it is still in one piece, just "bent".
I went to a track this weekend with the xxx-4 and broke the front diff cover (that happens now and then), then one or two of the B44 drivers talked about how their car did not break for the last 12 weeks. I was thinking, "Hey, that's great, maybe I will switch over." But then I saw his front A-arm and front top chassis plate break soon enough. So I am kind of back to neutral.
I think the best durability areas are
1) the front 7.5 hinge pin holder -> aluminum,
2) front caster hubs -> aluminum,
3) maybe the special mod that straps the lower end of the front diff cover to the chassis (haven't tried that one, but can imagine the benefit).
That's about as far as I would take it, but keep spares of the front inner hinge pin mount

I was wondering what mod are you talking about strapping the lower end of the front diff cover to the chassis.
I just picked up a XXX-4G+ to run at our local track. The first weekend with it the car had a few breaks, but it wasn't without a cause. There was a half pipe wall turn that killed me the first time out, that continued to have a impact on me throughout qualifying with a parts list of front belt cover, left hub, left wheel nut. But during main time it all started to work out and had a second place finish with Alleged old and outdated XXX4.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
I'm sure to have fun with it just as I'm having good times with XXX CR.
Now I ain't afraid of those B4s or B44s.

I had a question on bodies, which one has the the most room underneath it. The original Invader or the Aurora.
