Good luck. I accomplished it by going to a different car. My single biggest gripe about the XXX4 was the lack of steering and short of having a CNC mill at my disposal to re-engineer the steering linkage I was flat out of ideas.
The car is still very capable of hanging with anything out there, and yes, it can steer a lot. Run 57 pistons, red springs, and 27.5 oil in the front... Run shocks at 2-inside and camber in the second hole with two washers under the ballstud on the spindle carrier. This is what I was running... I'm changing everything up right now, if I get it better, I'll let you know. But that'll steer.

In ideal circumstances and everything is equal it is still a potent car - but that isn't reality.

A lot of people have simply gone to newer technology that works on a wider range of tracks.

Can you still win with one? Yes. Are there better cars out there now? Absolutely.

Now I'm not at all saying anything negative about you and your desire to continue running one. All I am saying is understand why people don't continue to run them.

I still have my XXX-4. I don't like it. Wanna buy it?

I just run it in the stock position. Moving the ballstud may increase the steering throw but really has nothing to do with making the car's front end bite more when turning in.... that's just my opinioin, take it with a grain of salt.

I didn't read all the threads here and maybe this has been brought up before, but take a look a this pic--Its a XXX4 from the Worlds in Japan this past September. I think all the pros do something like this to get more steering out of their XXX4s. It looks like it requires a little trimming on the tunnel and a new alloy (or plastic) rack. Pretty neat stuff:

Its Mike Truhes car:

Ever since I got my BJ4 WE, I haven't really driven my XXX4. The BJ4 WE is amazing and makes you feel like you are an awesome driver (even if you aren't)--heroic is the word that comes to mind. Even so, I can't get rid of the xxx4--I absolutely LOVE the design, engineering and execution of this car (xxx4)--everything (design wise) feels "right" about it. Also, its a very fun car to drive--but its hard to get it to corner as hard as the Bj4. I don't personally think its a super fragile car (like most people do) but it definatley seems to break a bit easier than other 4wds. I would love to do the steering mod I posted above and see if I can get that hard cornering feel that makes the bj4 such a delight to drive.

On my small indoor, tight track (LIR) The BJ4 works great with diffs front and rear and I normally run the dual rate at about 95-97%. On the same track the XXX4 absolutely needs a one-way--and it still has trouble with some corners.

Just got back from the track. I ended up putting Amezcua's setup on it from the Hot Rod Classic in 06. It's on the Losi website. THE CAR HAS TONS OF STEERING. I run on an indoor clay track with a lot of bite. That's the setup I'm going to run in Columbus at the CRCRC Midwest Champs next week.

No doubt the XXX4 has steering. I haven't come across a situation where i couldn't get the amount of steering I needed. The new AE cars look pretty good, but the XXX4 is plenty competitive. It's nice to see the biggest mod class at CRCRC is 4wd this year. That's a departure from the norm. Between the Losi car, AE car, Academy car, Kyosho car, and Hot Bodies car there are so many good options. Makes for a fun class.

The xxx4 is dialed with a oneway but without it on tight tracks it lacks some steering. Besides the xxx4 oneways arent exactly bullet proof. I put a cr rack in my car and it turns as sharp as any car now. I 'll put up some pics its different than truhe's slightly. Takes about and hour and 5$
