Here's my take on it,

I have had companies (in my profession) ask me to write reviews, testimonials, blogs, & one-liners that they can use either on their website, in their forums, in their literature, in their advertising. For that, yes I usually get some token of appreciation whether it is a shirt, piece of equipment or whatever. I am fine with this.

In my profession there are also many message boards and forums for sharing ideas, experiences and similar. None of these companies has ever asked me to put my thoughts out in the public forums that are ran by other people. To be quite honest if they did I would be done with them. It's just not my style. Now if somebody asks I'll give my opinion but I'm just not the type of person who do something like that to get a prize.

I see what MaxAmps doing as a form of Gorilla Marketing. I'm pretty sure they realize that whether they want to admit to it or not. Kind of like the whole we will never build a hard case lipo speech that was given just a short time back.

If you look at the original posters previous posts and lack there of it's pretty obvious he's here to get a shirt. That's fine, it's his prerogative, but in my opinion it is no better then the porn & cell phone spammers that hit. Those guys get paid for every post.

Sir, first of all, as one of the critics, let me thank you for responding and identifying yourself. That alone addresses a lot of my concern. Very impressive and professional. I will endeavor to keep up, please accept my best wishes when I fall short.

Your comments seem to indicate that you are starting to understand our concern to some degree, but will all due respect, you seem to think that since you aren't paying much, that it somehow is OK. Sir, I am not questioning the pay scale here, you are either paying or not. Splitting hairs comes to mind.

You claim that this is just like sponsored driver ads, but the ones I see are pretty obvious, generally most sponsored drivers are way upfront about their sponsorship, it is not hidden at all. I do not see anything in the first post that suggests a connection to sponsorship. Thus misleading in my opinion. 100% unethical and wrong in yours, see, we agree!

If I may stay positive sir, look at the threads that the Schumacher guys are running. They identify themselves immediately and always, list their wares, and let the discussion begin. They have several quite healthy threads, lots of good info flowing around. But no hidden agendas, now matter how cheap they may be.

Because of one of the Schuie threads, I am a proud owner of some of their stuff, that I otherwise never would have purchased. Which I suspect is your goal. And this is despite the threads really not being in the correct place, I do not believe I have ever seen criticism of their approach in the threads, because they are upfront, and are actually supplying useful info beyond ads. Also what I think you are trying to achieve. Some goofy humor even, hey, it is a hobby, at least for the guys paying your bills, right? It is a business for you, I understand that, but please don't lose sight of our side, we're just screwing around, we really don't have to spend a dime if we don't want to. Discretionary income and all.

As you can see there is plenty of positive energy regarding your company to build on. I would suggest there is no need to hide behind anyone sir. Actually I would humbly suggest quite the opposite, plenty of guys would love to share their enthusiasm for your products. With the actual CEO even! Holy Batman! Much more impressive than some guy with a shirt, no disrespect intended. And it's even cheaper than a t shirt, my friend! (So now you can reduce your prices. You thought I was trying to help, haw!).

Again, thanks for joining in the discussion. Note that at least in my opinion, even your critics are more positive after you have joined in and identified yourself. We really are not all that bad of guys. We, well I should just speak for myself, just ask for some respect and common courtesy.

I sincerely hope that my comments are taken in the way they are intended, and look forward to your continuing responses.

Cheers!

Dave,

I understand your perspective. I really do. I just disagree with it. I feel like we are just spurring people to post an opinion that they already had. These are not actors or spammers. They are our customers. They had the experience and have developed their own opinion. We are giving them a T-Shirt for sharing it. We are absolutely open about this offer. We are not hiding anything.

I believe that its better for me to give back to a paying customer than to give to an advertising agency or media company. I think its the right thing to do, not the wrong thing to do.

I am very open to your opinions since the last thing I would ever want to do is to be thought of as unethical in some way. Anyone who knows me personally would agree that I do not even venture into the "grey" area with regards to my decisions. I understand exactly what you are saying but I still think that what we are offering is not only moral but good business. I hope that I am not wrong.

Best Regards,
-Austin

But it was not open IMO until you suffered a lot of criticism. Again, just identify it up front. The only openess I see is with your customers, not the people reading these threads. I still think you are missing an opportunity for a much more positive and effective message. And sir, I say that as a person who daily represents a company in a much larger industry. Most of my dealings involve many digits. Approach is everything in my opinion.

I felt that sending it out in the MaxAmps newsletter was an "open" method. I guess I misunderstood what you meant by "open".

I suppose asking anyone who is doing a review solely for the purpose of a T-Shirt should disclose that in the review. I don't see the sponsored drivers posting how much of their products are free when they talk about those products. I also don't see the magazines disclosing what products that they reviewed were free to them.

I would love to hear specifically what you mean by this statement:

"I still think you are missing an opportunity for a much more positive and effective message."

I would love to hear any ideas that you have regarding us providing a "positive and effective message". I feel like we offer an outstanding product and value along with over the top customer service. If there is anything we could do to improve the message, I would love to hear it. I am always open to new ideas and a "positive and effective message" sounds like exactly what we try to promote.

Austin- I believe what Dave is trying to tell you is. Out of all of the negative comments about the tactics used to gain recognition. There has been nothing but praise for your products. Please use that to your advantage.

I am a MaxAmps customer. I do have a legitimate complaint about your customer service (not your products). My concern for you not standing behind claims made on your website is shared by a few that I know of. I still have plans to purchase more MaxAmps products in the next week or two. That alone should tell you that I think you make an excellent product.

I guess I must have missed something. What claim do we make on the website that we do not stand behind? I don't know of anything like that. If I did, I can assure you that it would be changed/corrected right away.

I purchased a battery solely on the information on your website that had it listed as fitting my car. It did not fit. It wasn't even close to fitting. When I called I was told I need to buy extended post. I have not been able to locate any extended post for my car. But even if I did the battery would still hold the body up. I was told by your customer service that since I didn't buy it directly from you that it wasn't their sell. Even though it was a maxamps battery purchased by researching maxamps website.
There is another post in this thread of a very similar experience. I have also heard the same thing from a couple of people at my local track.
I have nothing but good things to say about your products. And your customer service was very willing to accommodate me until I said that it wasn't purchased directly from maxamps.

I am curious. I received the email from Maxamps about the posting the experiences with the pack. If your experiences were bad, do you still get a T shirt? If so, I would say that sounds pretty unbiased to me. (my experiences were good with the ones I had)

I can see both sides of the argument though and I think maxamps would have been better served to have had people just get T-shirts randomly or as a thank you to customers, or heck, do a free give away of a pack a week to customers or people at random as a thank you. I think that would have gone a long way.

Last time this came up it started a big thread I believe.

For this:

I kind of got that same issue when I purchased a 6000mah pack and then the whole ROAR rules thing came up. Pack was never used, and maxamps was willing to switch the pack and give me a credit towards the legal one they were making when it was ready but as soon as they found out I bought it from X shop that sells there packs, they couldn't help me anymore. I was lucky I could return the pack, but I was dissapointed. I was willing to wait till they had a fully approved pack, and that would have been months. but no to no avail.

Austin,

Just reading through last page or so it seems like where part of the issue or problem is with what the inital poster wrote. If you read it, it is generic and kind of a commercial more than a review.

I know thats not your fault.

Dave unless I am miss understanding what you are saying, in your posts, but it almost seems as if you were confusing Austin and the orgional poster as being the same person.

I agree with tcmaster 1. I dont believe that it was intentional, but some of the applications that the batteries are for, do not necessarily fit "drop in." As an example I curently have 2 6000mah saddle lipos, B44. Your site says

"This pack is the ultimate upgrade for any vehicle that takes a 6 cell saddle pack of Sub C NIMH cells. This pack will fit perfectly in the new Team Associated B44 with no modification required."

They do not fit perfectly. I had to buy Axial brand posts that were much longer, at a cost of around $15 when you include shipping.

Though I am extatic about your products and your customer service, I do feel that I was misled by what your site said. I wouldnt even have mentioned it, but tcmaster1 made a valad point.

OG RC 10T - so the 6000 doesn't fit either? I have a 5500 which is taller than the 6000. I requested credit towards a 6000 because I was told " the 6000 will fit with no problems". That was in a phone conversation with maxamps customer service. I am also running a501x not a b44.
