Something tells me that someone mislables their cells. Either a123 does, or the rest of the r/c market does. I have never seen a 2300mah nimh or lipo pack that can push a 6turn mod tc hard for 6 minutes. Or a 2300 pack that can push a 10 turn mod hard for 11 minutes.

I use 2s1p packs (2300 mah) to run 6 minutes hard in 1/10 mod 4wd offroad with no problem at all.

Partywagon, I never tried the A123's in a 2S1P pack, just the 2S2P(4600mAh) I built but I've repeatedly clocked between 22 & 24 minutes with my BL 5.5 motor. Not sure how my brushless run time stacks up against say a 10 turn mod brushed. My math says with my set-up I would get at least 10 to 11 minutes with an A123 2S1P (2300mAh) pack.

I still think lipos have a future, but when you can build wiring harnesses to charge 2s 3p packs in 15 minutes I just seem to forget about the relevence of lipos.

A123 does have a pack that will fit a side x side tray perfectly. I have seen pics of it on an TA05 IFS conversion in RC Driver.

For the money, they look to be a great pack. I would just like to see prices for premade stuff from vendors more reasonable compared to doing the dewalt 36V breakdown thing.

I've been running a 2S2P A123 pack since September they work great, you just need a little more motor that you would use with lipo or nmhi. My pack (6.6V,4600mAh) will charge to 95% in 15 minutes with 10Amps, they never get hot & they will run my Novak 5.5 BL in the B44 for over 22 minutes at race pace.

did you use 4 of them? or 2?

The newer cars have a wider battery slot because the newer nimh cells are longer then when cars like the xxx & t-4 1st came out. In order to make them fit into something like a t-4 you have to dremmel the sides down some to make them fit, if you go with a 2p pack. Cars such as the b44 & new tcs already have a very wide battery slot so the a123s will fit. Cars such as the xxx-cr & k car that have the wider battery slot may not require dremeling.

2S2P Stick Packs

Hi there,

May I know if the RC10B4 and Kyosho ZX5 cars can fit the A123 2S2P in stick pack form?

Also, which EP touring car can fit the above cells too?

Many thanks,

Diesel.

You will have to dremel the sides of the battery slot on the b4 down some to fit a 2s 2p pack into a b4. I don't know anything about the zx-5. Just about any car that doesn't have rails on the side of the battery slot or has a battery slot made for the new bigger nimh cells can fit the a123 cells. If you do not wish to do any dremel work on your b-4 then you may want to building something like a 2s 3p 1100 a123 pack. That should fit w/out any problems.

what is the "dewalt breakdown thing"??

You can buy 36v Dewalt power tool packs that contain 10 of the Lif Pe04 cells (A123). Usually they can be had for around $100 - 120.
