Default Tamiya TT-01 for off road

Hi to all!

I have a tt01 with upgrades that I've been driftin with but Im getting bored with difting and I wanna try rc off road..

-Can the Tamiya tt01 be converted into a off raod rc car?
-What parts should I go and change so I can use it in loose soil or sand?
-Any specific brands of tt01 parts that you can suggest for better performance?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

TT01 is an entry level car, that means it's very strong aganist crashes but limited in performance.

First, you can't really go off road ith this car, but you can try a rally conversion. Some people converted their touring cars in rally cars. The basic items are: rally tyres, hpi and tamiya have different threads available. Longer shocks and softer springs. Lexan under cover for the chassis. Rally body.

Avoid jumps!

you can jump it if its not big. i rallied a tl-01 for the longest time... But it wasn't really setup for it. just ran it in the grass. its fun. challenging to keep it on the ground and planted straight but a lot of fun. and coming from drifting, loose dirt turns should be no problem for you

Thanks streetracer!

since I used it for drifting before I already installed a lot of hop-ups to it, so all I had to do was to modify the suspension and change the shock and spring set up..

I tried using 2" buggy springs on my hpi sprint 2 but its too much... the stock springs are only 1" but not very good for rally... anybody knows if there is anything in between... don't know what would work on a tt01 but on the sprint about 1.5 inches would be ideal

rexvirtue - How did you make those skid plates? I want to make some for my TC because I just got a new chassis and don't want to mess it up.

i made a paper template and traced it onto some thin piece of hobby sheet metal i got at a hobby shop. maybe stainless steel, maybe tin, im not sure what kind of metal it was. cut it out with a mini hacksaw and used a grinder to smooth out the edges. i drilled holes to line up (mostly) with some unused existing holes in the bumper mount and some other holes that hold the lower plastic bottom plate thing. im gonna try and make some better ones soon, but these work fine till then. i bent them using the round surface of a magic marker. hope thats clear enough.

Seems simple enough but I was actually talking about the plastic one that covers the main chassis... Haha thanks though I will look for some and make some skids for my buggy! How much do they weigh? What about the plastic one though? Whats it made out of. And how long are your shocks and where did you get them?
