BEST HARD PLASTIC WING

Looking for a hard wing (like 1/8) for b44
any ideas?
thanks

RCBLUE 03-24-2008 08:34 PM

I have been using a CRT.5 wing, but Acadamy now has a hard wing for their 4 wheel that will fit as well.

chadn 03-24-2008 10:28 PM

im not sure a hard wing is such a good idea for the b44. because if it catches something it will break the wing mount or shock tower instead of messing up a 3 dollar wing

Cain 03-25-2008 09:28 AM

curious, is the wing mount for a b44 weaker than the academy? I had one of the first academys in the USA and never broke a wing mount, and I pogo sticked the rear of the academy a WHOLE lot.

my only concern would be weight.

Agreed.

I tried the crt.5 wing but it is small, and an 1/8th wing that is to large but looks cool. The 1/8th wing is a little thick and I was worried about the shock towers breaking.

If you were to buy a j-concepts body it comes with 2 wings, I dont know if that helps or not, but its just a thought.

I run a BJ4WE and have never broken a shock tower because of the hard wing. I have broken wing mounts, but I did that with the standard lexan wing too. Yeah the CRT wings are a little small, but the Acadamy wings are the perfect size if you can find them.

with the current surge of popularity of 4wds, hopefully pro-line steps up to the plate and make one

Laterilus 03-25-2008 01:55 PM

agreed. I'm all for proline or some other company to make 1/10 buggy wings. I've never understood the lexan wing. It breaks, creases, and loses its shape so quickly after only a couple of crashses. I figured by now someone would have made a wing that isn't quite as heavy as the 1/8 wings but can also withstand some punishment prior to losing its shape and breaking.

As for lexan wings, the new Kyosho Blast wing that comes with the SP is the toughest lexan wing I've used to date.

Does the Academy wing come with pre-drilled holes or blank?

RCBLUE 03-25-2008 02:37 PM

Sort of. It comes with two set of punch out holes so you pick the set of punch outs that work best for you.

Thanks BLUE. It's good that the holes are not "punched" yet so to speak so I can drill my own holes without leaving unnecessary holes.

I've been using the CRT.5 high downforce wing on my B44 and B4 the whole indoor season without a problem. Did some back to back testing with a standard lexan wing and didn't notice a difference in traction or jumping, but it is an indoor track so didn't get near the speeds as outdoors. Had a set of racers edge alum. B4 wing mounts so haven't had a probelm there. The B44 plastic mounts have held up well too. A marshall can pick up the car by the wing and I don't worry about it folding or tearing (yea, I know if I kept it rubber side down or off the pipes I wouldn't have to worry about it, but I'm not there yet.) The wings are still in great shape and, if anything, they help protect the rear shock tower a bit. The HD wing gives it a bit different look and they come in a bunch of colors.

It would be nice to see some 10th specific wing options other than the standard lexan wing.

I think the wing from a Robitronic Mantis may suit your needs. It's a 1/8th scale wing, but smaller. It is a tad under 6.5" wide, unlike the typical 8-8.5". Good luck;)

I am looking on Academys site would that hard wing be the SB sport wing in yellow. I am actually planning on trying it on my RB-5 because I agree I think the they should all be hard since the wing is always one of the first things on the cars that take a beating.

forty6 03-26-2008 08:47 PM

sohl, I believe it is. I got some myself. We'll see. For less than $4 bucks a pop, it's worth a try. Better get some now, if the word gets out, it would be harder to get.

Finally got a chance to mount an Academy wing on a B44. The wing is 5 1/2 wide and 2.75 in. front to back. Just like blue said, it has punch out holes, so you can drill your own holes. It has reference lines on the underside to make drilling easier. It is bigger than a .5 CRT wing. I will take a picture when my camera is done charging. It is very much worth the $4, in my opinion.

BTW, a yellow version can be found here.

So what do you guys think the best alternative hard wing is besides the academy wing for the sbv2?

Bulldawg RC 04-16-2008 09:28 AM

on my XXX4, i use s crt.5 high downforce wing. i have zero issues with it and actually now turn marshalls are not destroying my wing like they were previously.

Get some skillz.... when you stop crashing you won't destroy your wings

Lexan wings aren't going anywhere......

BuggyKing 04-16-2008 01:02 PM

I like the JConcept wings.

Check out the hard wing that comes with the Hotbodies lightning 10 buggy... Its just like an 1/8 wing but 1/10 scale so it should look about right on any 1/10 buggy
