Because it's the best buggy tamiya has ever produced.

The Avante was awesome back in the 80's, but the worlds 501x
makes even the almighty avante tone down some in coolness.

It's just cheaper to by a B44 than a BJ4..and makes more sense since the worlds BJ4 is an all aluminum version of the B44.
Parts support of the B44 is also so much better.

did you know you can interchange A-arms from the B44 to the 501x?
Pretty much identical cars, the only difference is the belt driven 501x is alot smoother than the B44.
But you cannot degrade the B44 in anyway because it's the worlds champ.

DONT LISTEN TO THIS GUY, HE IS A _______. parts support for the bj4 w.e. has never been an issue, jconcepts has the best customer service in the game. period. the bj4 and b44 are a little different and it isn't only in aluminum stuff.

as far as your query between these two cars well, they are completely different. they are both capable cars. go with what you like. if there are a bunch of 501 x's at your track and you can get set up advice and parts quick if you break in a qualifier then that is a plus. associated parts are everywhere and generally less expensive than the tamiya stuff but both of these kits are top notch. there are plenty of pros and cons to belts and open drive trains and shafts and closed drivetrains. i never had an issue with rocks on my bj4 w.e. and my local track is rocky and loamy. a place where i would have never taken a belt drive car. if you are racing indoor on a clean surface it really doesn't matter which platform you choose imo. i know down at cap city in sacramento the yokes are on point and win a lot of races. anyway thats it........

They are both similar in that they both have saddle packs and both have a bunch of aluminum on them. Otherwise they drive quite different. The 501x is a very smooth car with awesome turn in. It can be a bit challenging to drive if the setup isn't spot on but for most driving I really prefer it to the BJ4.

I always liked the BJ, but it definatley has more understeer than the 501--IMO the bj4 really has to be pushed hard to get times out of it while the 501 can be driven very fluidly and smoothly and still be fast.

Before people say you can setup a BJ to turn as hard as anything, that is true with any car up to a point. No matter how you set a car up, it still will have a certain balance and characteristics built in that you can only change so much.

If its important to you the build quality on the 501 is beyond reproach. From the shocks to the hinge pins to the aluminum and ball diffs, every piece is beautiful and functional. I saw the 501 world and knew I had to get one. It would win on aesthetics alone.

but the only thing that stops me on the 501x is the high price and part support at my track so i won't get that, but i've been eyeing the b44, but don't know which one bj4 or b44 will handle the best. i heard that the b44 likes to be pushed hard and i really push hard. i want a tough tranny too cuz im gonna put in a 7700 in it. i know it's overkill , heck it's fun!
plus is the 501x arms stronger than the b44's?

If you REALLY want to run a car, parts support at your local track isn't going to stop you. My local track carries ZERO Tamiya parts of any kind. However, I have gotten around that by ordering from Speedtech, and from Tamiya USA directly (who have every part in stock for the 501--at slightly higher price). Mind you, I have a lot of parts that I had to buy up front---I don't want to be sidelined because of a bent hinge pin or a toasted thrust bearing.

I also think running a car nobody else runs has pluses and minuses. Minuses meaning you can't borrow parts or setups but pluses in that your car may simply be better for a certain track or layout than the other cars everyone else is running.
