What's your 1/8th electric selections?

Hey Guys, I am sure a lot of 1/8th scale electric prospects would love to see this, as I would. Could you guys give your setup as such?

RC8
Neu 1512 1.5d
Quark 125b w/ RC-Monster Heat Sink
Flightpower 4s 5000 25c or Maxamps 3s 8000
Hyperion w/ LB10 balancer
RC Product Designs tray & motor mount
RC Monster servo & receiver mount
No Fan
Likes: Buttery smooth throttle of the Quark
Dislikes: Quark gets pretty hot and brakes a little too strong
Motor Performance: Excellent. Blistering fast. Nitros aren't even in the same ballpark when it comes to power.

Good battery life. How much less battery life do you think with a 2.0d/f?

badassrevo 03-10-2008 07:51 AM

I don't have any hands on with a 2d.

Hey! Thanks!
That's what i needed to know!

I think i'm taking the 2.5D, with 4S 5000mah lipos too(maybe i'm going with 4S 8000mah) for my 8ight, if it's possible to have more than 25 minutes of runtime with a "same as nitros" performance.

badassrevo, could you tell me which pinion are you running to get that?

badassrevo 03-10-2008 09:27 AM

I run 14/46 gearing

glassdoctor 03-10-2008 09:35 AM

baddassrevo... has a similar runtime to what I have had when running indoor. It's pretty insane to see something run that long

I don't get as good outdoors... but at the indoor track I get about 170 mah per minute on average with a similar setup. = 29 minutes on 5000mah

Cain 03-10-2008 10:38 AM

Here is my info:

1. MBX5 with Type R Front Arms and steering rack
2. Neu 1512 2.5D motor
3. Mamba Max ESC with hole mod, RC Monster BEC
4. Maxamps 4S 6000mah, PolyRC 4S 4900mah (Enerland cells)
5. Hyperion 610i
6. RC Product Designs 46T spur based conversion, short tray
7. 12V heavy duty fan
8. <Likes of your setup>
- Fast
- no mess or tuning issues
- Long runtimes

9. <Dislikes of your setup>
- Maxamps pack is heavy
- Would like to eliminate fan if possible
10. On a 200ft straight, geared slightly under what I would go with (14T, should do 15T or 16T), it tops out about alittle past half way down the track, and only the top guys engines are slightly faster.
11. With the maxamps 4S 6000mah, 20+ minutes

I am looking to use the PolyRC 4900mah battery now as it is:

- Much lighter than the Maxamps 4S pack (1/3 lb lighter)
- Fits dans original MBX5 tray so I don't have to buy another
- uses Enerland 25C cells, same as the trackpower lipo packs
- Has big gauge wire
- excellent price from RC Lipos
- Low profile and will fit under any body
- Is 100mah less than the common 5000mah Enerland based pack and assuming 25 minutes with the 5000mah enerland, should do 24 minutes, and weighs about 50 grams less too.

I should have a test on the pack this weekend at an other big race.

If someone could make a staggered tray, could run two hardcased lipos with a slight offset so I can still reach all the wires like the trakpower and orion packs (don't want to stand on side) would work great. Or, just get 1 bigger hardcased lipo pack.

8IGHT T Truggy
Neu 1515 1y/f
Mamba Max (one fan)
Rc Monster motor mount
Home made 1/8" plexie glass battery box
Maxamps 3s2p 8000mah for racing / 4s 6000mah for bashing
Duratrax ICE

This truggys the boom, 0-40mph in 2.23secs(nitros dubble), runs about 30mins stright....
out runs nitros:):)
quite for midnite parkinglot bashing
Can clear a 30ft tripple with less then a 8-10ft run up:):):)

i dont dislike anything, well mabey this was never out in 1996 when i first got into rc cars. could have saved around $10,000 on all the small 1/10th scales i brought, two cars a year drive one when cooling off drove the second an keept switching, mabey 10-15 batterys every year, at least 5-8 motors a year carappy $80 dirtinators an d2's an d3's, an $500 comm cutter, me an my best friend use too drive everyday, from 10am-7pm, oh those where the days of crappy 6cell 1500mah's an the NEW 1700MAH's lol.(this was when i first became parolized and since i couldnt race my bmx bike or dirtbikes anymore i spent 95% of my time playin with my rc, an haven my dad or friend build my carsc an trucks)

now u really only need 1 or 2 5000-6000-or 8000mah packs too run all day long....
12years ago u were lucky to make a 4min main with a 10turn & 1500-1700mah, oh and change the brushes every 4-8 runs, @ $4 a pop it adds up, an u hve too cut ur comm every 10-15 runs.... WOW THIS HOBBY HAS COME A LONG WAY...now with brushless & lipos, an big 1/8th scales that dont break every other run, this hobby is awsome
