Default TEKIN RX8 W/ EXTERNAL BEC

so i am waiting for my tekin rx8 1900 combo to come in the mail and i am worried about the proper voltage to my servo. I am running a savox sc1267 servo with spektrum dx3s.

should i get an external bec? how can i get around 7-8 volts to the reciever or servo with the rx8?

thanks for your help!

The internal BEC will only give you 6V max. You can put a Castle Creations external BEC on it to get the higher voltage you want/require. I did this on my buggy. It comes with wiring instructions and it can be adjusted with Castle's software/programmer.

How can I adjust the bec with castle link if I have a tekin rx8?

If you use the CASTLE external BEC you adjust it with Castle's stuff.

Is there any other kind of affordable bec that would put out around 7 volts or more?

what is your reasoning for an external BEC? The 1267 will be plenty fast on 6v. In my 8th scale buggy I use a 1268 on 6v which is slower than a 1267. I've never lost a race due to a slower servo speed.

I'm not worried about speed as much as a brown out or whatever it's called. I heard savox servos draw a lot of Amps and cause brown outs. As well as my dx3s transmitter.

The BEC on the RX8 is stout you should be good to go right out of the box! you can add a power cap for extra insurance try it out before adding E-BEC. Most brownouts are cause by weak low C rating batteries and high kv motors or possible internal issues with the RX8.

Is this going in a SC or 8th scale, and what motor do you plan on using?

What are end caps? Can u tell me a specific name of one so I can look it up?
Also is that just like the Novak glitch buster? Would that work or that's different?

Be sure to properly set your endpoints on the servo as well. When you hit the limit of the steering throw and the servo is still trying to go further you will draw more power.

Glitch buster http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...tage-Protector

Castle external bec http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...Adjustable-BEC

Castle link to program said bec if needed
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...rammer-Adapter

And if the bec and link is needed wouldn't it have just been easier to get a servo that doesn't cause this?

So this http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...o-High-Voltage plus the castle pieces.

Or just this http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-Digital-Servo

And before its said, I call b.s. on being able to tell the difference of .06 sec.
My opinion for what it's worth.

+1 I burned out the internal bec in my RX8 by having my endpoints set well beyond full steering lock. Tekin customer service is awesome though and they fixed it very quickly and cheap (it was out of warranty).

I know this is an old post but it's completely wrong. With the Tekin Hotwire you can set your servo voltage to 7.4V without the need of an external BEC. I'm not sure if you could ever pull more than 5 amps with any steering servo with end points set correctly.

Actually you are completely wrong. This thread was back from 2012 before the Gen2 RX8 existed. The first Generation of RX8 had a 6v non adjustable bec.

So way to go.
