Default Advice on which RC tank to buy?

I'm putting it here because it's electric, and off-road. If it's in the wrong place, please feel free to move it.

Saving for a Christmas present for my son, I think he'd like one of these (he's 7, and routinely kicks my butt with his 1/10 electric cars, much to my chagrin) but on ebay, and around the net, there are billions (and billions!) for sale, and I don't know what to look for, or where to start?

It doesn't have to shoot anything, the smoke option is cool. Turret has to traverse, and of course if the main barrel raises and lowers that'd be cool as well.

Obviously it's got to have good off-road abilities...

Suggestions, tips, etc is greatly appreciated!
