Default B44 or ZX5 SP *** please advise me!!

Pros and cons?

These seem to be the front runners of the 4WD class right now. Have any of you driven both? Owned both?

That would be great to hear some REAL feedback, and not just magazine article regurgitations. Thanks.

Both buggies are nice. I would go with Kyosho. I liked the way they handled over the B44 which seemed to bottom out much. Kyosho had issues with strength in the front shock towers. But B44 had issues with ball stud breakage in diff cases. That is just my 2 cents.

I run an SP, I like it cause it is more durable then the b44 and shares parts with my other buggy. Box set-up with a few tweaks is dialed. I have driven a few B44 and when set-up right feel good also. B44 seems to brake rear plate (some drivers) and front shock shafts. I also think the rear hinge pins move around alittle but you can mod this. Shocks are way more convienent then the b44 and are very easy to get silky smooth everytime

I love my sp more then any other car i have.

i have been running the zx5 Sp for about 3 months now and entered some pretty large events. I have never been defeated by a B44, It's faster, tougher, and easier to work on. Also The advantage of using normal battery packs helps a lot.

I can't tell you how much I love my B44. Box stock setup (with 5wt heavier oil all around) is dialed where I run. The shocks seem really really smooth with AE's new gold shafts. I havn't had any breakage problems at all except for a front arm which was completely my fault. The ZX-5 SP is also very nice though. I drove one of the OG ZX-5s and was impressed with it. Either car is a great choice, but I still say you get a B44

I started this thread. I asked a similar question in the Kyosho thread, but wanted to get some B44 people in on it to balance out the talk.

I actually own the B44 now. It's awesome!! But I have seen the ZX5 at my track and it just looks to be a MUCH smoother suspended buggy than the B44. I drove one and launched it off a jump and it "sticks" the landing much better I feel. The B44 really doesn't stick anything. It more like slaps the living hell out of stuff, is more like it.

I honestly have limited drive time with both, that's why I'm asking you before I up and sell my B44 for a ZX5 SP.

The lexan under body on the B44 is what helps make that loud smack. That's why it sounds like it bottoms out so much. The tray magnifies the sound. Just try smacking the bottom of the chassis with your hand. You'll get the point. All cars bottom out you they just sound diff.

I've driven both recently and I have the old ZX-5, I actually drove RB FIVE's SP yesterday which felt great, both buggys do feel similar, but the SP had alot more rear bite than the B44 I drove did. Kyosho shocks are awesome, I've been trying to make them work on my CR but they don't fit. One guy at our track made them fit his B44 though. My old zx-5 in comparison feels like a completely different car than both of them, it feels more like a 2wd buggy, mine has less overall grip than the SP did.

Neither. Get the Tamiya 501x World!! (I am getting one--but its definatley not for everybody) Seriously though, I have a BJ4 We and its a great car but it seems like its a bit nervous and touchy. I too drove RB Fives Zx5-SP yesterday. Great car!! It has tons of steering but at the same time still has that rear bite. With my BJ (and I have heard this from others) when its setup to steer hard you lose a little rear end bite, and when its set up to have a lot of rear bite it tends to understeer alot. Could be that I haven't nailed the perfect setup yet--but I think the SP comes with a really great box setup. I only briefly drove a b44 so I can't really compare but I would think the b44 drives very similar to the BJ4 WE. I think the BJ4 WE (or b44) can be just as good as the SP, but it may require chasing more setups to get there.
