I have 2 Ice's and the Original Much More cell master with the Losi Li-po charge converter. All three chargers work killer.

I would go for the hyperion line of chargers. If you only plan on using 2-3s you could go with the 606i (limited to 50watts). If you are going to be charging bigger packs I would get a 610i (up to 250watts). They both have built in lba10 balancers and will show you the individual cells voltage, back light and are priced well.

As I understand it, the 989 is different than the older MRC chargers which were terrible lipo chargers. I have read of quite a few happy 989 users. I've seen one at the track a couple times too, never heard of any trouble.

I have a couple ICE chargers... very happy with them.

They really changed the 989 and how it charges lipo compared to the older models....

Orion ran into a problem with one older model charger now they shamelessly slam all MRC chargers. The MRC 989 works great with Lipos. I have used mine for almost a year now with zero problems.

The Prodigy Pro Peak II is a dc only charger, and a decent one for the price. If you shop around, you can find it on sale for 49-59 bucks.

What type of cells are in your future? Where do you charge at? I prefer the dual voltage chargers like the Bantam. But they cost more. If you only get a DC charger, then you need a battery or PS to charge on the bench. The AC/DC ones are going to cost more because they have a power supply built in.
Also consider ones with a built in balancer. I went with a bantam BC6, and it displays each cell voltage during balance charge or regular charge, cycles batteries, is compatible with stuff that's down the road (A123), etc. I think some of the Hyperions can do them also.

With that said, I love my bantam BC6. The Bantams are top of the line, and really easy to use. Second would be the Hyperions. Neu has the BC6 for 129. They also have smaller ones that are cheaper.

BC6 Specs
Runs off 11-18VDC/120-220AC 50/60Hz AC.
Nicd/MH: 1~15 cells
LiIo/LiPo/LiFe: 1~6 series
Pb: 2~20V
Charge current: 0.1 to 5.0A
Discharge current: 0.1 to 1.0A
No. of cycle: 1 to 5 times
Battery data memory: up to 5 data
Weight: 960g
Dimension: 160x120x40 mm

Rex, I just ordered the checkpoint charger.
I'll let you know how I like it when it comes in.

I was using the Orion Carbon, kinda a pain to navigate and just quit charging, need to send it in yet.

Default No power supply required

Hyperion EOS0606i AC/DC Balance Charger because it is great LIPO charger, sold by maxamps for LIPO, DOES NOT NEED A SEPARATE POWER SUPPLY! Which is one less thing to lug arround and find rrom for on the bench.

I own the Duratrax ICE, Astro Flight 109 and the Thunder Power TP1010C chargers. I have used li-pos for over 4 years in my off-road trucks/buggies!

The best and most expensive one is the Thunder Power 1010C and next is the Astro Flight 109 that is still probably the best li-po charger for the money on the market and the Duratrax ICE is OK and on the slow side. We have found the Duratrax ICE to also have a false peaking problem to when not hooked to a good quality power supply where the Astro Flight 109 and Thunder Power would show a input voltage fault.

The Thunder Power TP1010C has a data link cable to hook up with the Thunder Power balance to read individual cells and auto balancing feature if the li-po is over .2 volt per cell out of balance, it will cut back to .3 amp rate until balanced. Great charger!!!!
