Default more grip on dry track....just add soap??

hey guys.....

This next spring i'm building a cool little 1/10-1/18 track in my back yard , and it'll be totally built with a really good high clay content dirt. I remember hearing somewhere that to make the track a little less dusty and give it some extra grip , you add a bunch of soap ( like dish washing liquid) have you ever heard of this? I think i can get it in 5 gallon buckets. I know some of the nitro tracks get a little gooey after time from all the fuel , but i don't want to add oil , diesel or anything like that and contaminate the ground.

any other ideas?

Our track used to use Dr Pepper as an additive in the track dirt.

We soaped our track for a big race a couple of years ago. It seems to make the water soak in better and stay wetter longer which really helped the track groove up and not fall apart as it dried.

we`ve used it and it does help keep dust down along with keeping the track wet longer .

At our local 1/10 scale off-road track they used a mixture of lime & sugar durring the final stages of the track build. This surface is holding up very well considering it is outdoors.

Only problem with lime is that it actually absorbs moisture too much.

Be careful what you put in your dirt. You may kill your neighbor's lawns when it rains and you may want to sell that house someday. Most homebuyers like grass.

If you start laying sugar i hope you like bugs. I've seen tracks use powder laundry soap. Seems to work very similar to calcuim chloride. It holds water from evaporating so quickly.

Guys those are some great ideas for sure!! Man i never thought about using a soda pop or sugar water. Now i built motocross tracks and was the track manager/designer for over three year at a really big indoor arena cross track. The only time i ever used lime was the very begining when we first opened to dry the dirt out. I think this may hinder what i'm trying to accomplish here. Thanks guys , i have a few months before i can test any of this stuff , but i'm sure it'll work fine.
