Default stock brushless 17.5

our local indoor dirt track FTR is allowing brushless 17.5 motors and lipo's in the stock truck and buggy classes. My question is, is anyone running this motor and what gearing ur using. right now I'm upto 27p/82s in a MF2. after a 7 min. main motor is only 87 degrees. Guess I'm wonderin if more heat in the motor would result in better performance. Thanks for any help

no, they have somethin else for the crawlers. supposedly 17.5 is now the new stock. idk perhaps they all need to sell more motors since most have only sold 1 13.5 per customers. next it'll be 21.5s for '540-like close competition'. good grief

the 17.5 is nothing to scoff at. I have been running it in TC for a couple months, and it has been awesome. will try it on dirt soon. the only problem i have seen is it seems as though you cant get enough gear on it

Guys at my track are running 6-7 pinion teeth more on their 13.5, compared to the Monster motor. I'd try gearing up until your lap times even out or your motor temp gets to 160.

I'm just now switching to 13.5- allowed in stock class at Planet R/C. Then I heard ROAR is planning on making 17.5 stock legal. Great job as usual by ROAR...

Read this thread on BL proposals for next year. ROAR is not the one pushing for 17.5 in stock. The racers are.

I would like to see 17.5 become the new stock class.

It's supposed to be the same speed as your average brushed. The 13.5 sintered motors are faster than a stock motor, and are too fast for beginners/kids anyway. Stock needs to be knocked down a peg... rather than becoming even faster. Stock trucks aren't supposed to be pulling wheelies.

Maybe if we get back to the speeds that stock used to be, some of the sandbaggers with skills will move up to mod, and leave stock to the new/slow guys lol

I agree with GD on this one, the stock class should be a step up class not a pro class. I know its not officially a pro class, Except at nats, but the good guys should want to step up, not dominate. Win/loss levels are nothing unless you progress and race better racers.

If you are getting 87* after 7 minutes, is the esc hot during this? If not then you are about right, but Might could go higher gearing.

I go by three rules for brushless,
1. If motor is hot, ESC is cool= undergeared
2. If batteries or esc hot, motor cool= overgeared
3. All warm to ambient=happy setup
