Well if your a racer and going to be racing a stock class then you will want Novak's 13.5 motor. Thats the standard motor at most tracks.
It should actually be the 17.5 but it wasnt out when alot of people started with brushless so alot of people consider the 13.5 the stock motor.
It's more of a 19-23 turn motor and the 17.5 is your TRUE stock motor.
The traxxas system while big in size is literally BULLETPROOF. It will take a beating and keep on ticking. This thing will shut down if it gets too hot.
I have seen time and time and time and time again with the orange one's going up in smoke and pretty sick of it to be honest.
We have had issue's with them warrantying the product and wanting to charge $85.00-90.00 everytime it goes down. Blaming it on a bad impact or something.
Traxxas on the other hand will warranty the item if it was their fault. They are really good at this.
It may be big in size but for a open class or bashing it's hard to beat the durability of it.

P.S. Novak's motor's are fine. Just getting sick of the LACK of durability and warranty support for their brushless.

I dont believe that the 17.5 will be equal to stock. I personally believe that the 4300 was equivelant to a stock motor that had been taken care of tuned and made to run as best as it can. The 13.5 is equal to a stock motor that you pull out of the package and just put in your car so I can only imagine that the 17.5 would get its tail handed to it by anything but a tamiya mabuchi motor.

Well its your call. I have a problem with Novak before (shuting down) but when i report this to my LHS he replaced the unit no questions ask. Now Im using a 6.5 GTB and so far no problem whatsoever.

Alex-Im not sure if you havent ran enough motor's or what. But what I said has been tested.
The 4300 for SURE is a 19 turn equiv.
The 17.5 is a true stock 27 turn motor equiv.
The 13.5 is actually a 23 turn or a average 19 turn equiv.
This has been tested time and time again by pro drivers and the times will prove what I just said above.

I would go with a novak GTB/6.5 or 7.5. It is very powerful and alot of people have them in their t4's.

I'm with Alex on this one. The 13.5 was made and approved as the 27 turn stock equivalent. Nothing else to discuss on this one!

This really doesnt have anything to do with gears but I didnt want to start another thread cause there is a ton of them on here. But when racing caues I am just getting into it, when I switch to brushless will it be fine if I use my normal race packs? Eventually I will get lipo but i will work fine with like orion 4200's right? Enough runtime shouldnt be an issue I hope

Craps-Actually it wasnt MADE to be a 27turn equivilent and are you really going to give these guys credit for voting on ANYTHING? Please.

When I gear a 13.5 in a T4 82/25 which I do because it smoothes it out. There isnt a 27 turn stock motor on EARTH (even with bearings) that could hang with it.
Now you take a 17.5 and gear it right and a Blueprinted Co27 with bearings even and it will be VERY close in speed with the 17.5 still having more torque.

Craps-Just because the 13.5 has been out longer doesnt mean it's the right one or an actual stock class. Just because it's approved doesnt mean it's stock equiv. It's more of a 23 turn motor or even lower.
A 13.5 brushless class while being approved is more like a 23 turn or lower class.
Just wanted to clear that up.

Les
P.S. The 4300 is still a 19 turn or close equiv.

ive got the novak gtb and 6.5 combo and its a great mix of torque and power, especially if you like to pull wheelies. nothing like passing someone for position in a wheelie.

I hve seen issues with the GTB, including mine. I've also seen Novak stand fully behind their products, so I'm a little surprised at your experience. I recommend Novak FOR their tech support and warranty / out of warranty programs. I haven't run other systems, but have won and placed many times with Novak.

BTW, in extended correspondence with Novak, I found out they recommend you don't run a GTB with a low turn motor at max rpm wheels off the ground then slam the brakes hard... apparently it tends to ruin the capacitor and can smoke the ESC.

Thumbs up

ive got novak in my truck and lrp in my buggy and 4wd. both these systems all really good, but if you are just starting in it the 10.5 is like running 17-19 turn and can still pull wheelies. sometimes the bigger motors have to much power for our track so i will put in my 10.5 and all is good
