Default What is the best charger under US$200

I am getting a few 3 cell lipos.

I was thinking fo getting the associated Pulsar Competition 3 Charger

or the Max amps one specifically designed for lipos.

Which one is better?

I hear that 6 out of 10 world offroad champs use the LRP Pulsar.

Even though I do not own one, but the MRC Superbrain 989 for $139.99 at www.carolinasrc.com is the best deal that includes it's own power supply for that price.

It can charge li-pos and nickels batteries up to 10 amps along with and can break in motors, cycle charge, etc etc.

With the Hyperion EOS1210i and two Hyperion LBA10 balancers you can charge 2 equal lipo batteries at the same time. And it also is ready for 123 cells. Nimh and nicads. It also can do 2C charge rate with the balancer. Just in case you need a fast boost. I believe this is the only charger that let's you see the individual voltage of each cell while charging.

Don't have any experience with the A123 stuff. The electric racers around here all use li-pos. With 8000 mah li-pos, no need to charge at 10 amps. just 8 amps which is 1C as recommended.

I have this and like it very much.

I don't know what you need 8k mah for, 3hr mains or something. Using a 4800 Orion and a 10.5, I seldom seem to use more than 12-1500Mah in a 6 minute run. He asked for the best under $200, in my opinion that's the best for "normal" use.

Still with even a 4800 mah battery it will take 2 1/2 hours to fully charge with a 2 amp charger. 2 amps is too slow!

Alot of us use 8000 mah batteries in our T-4s with our 20 minute mains plus the 8000 is close to the same weight as a 6 cell nickel pack that most models were made for. The 8000 mah battery can be charged at an 8 amp rate so topping off that 1200 to 1500 mahs you used in that 4800 mah battery will be recharged almost twice as fast using the 8000 mah battery. We also use between 5.5 and 7.5 motors in our T-4s on 1/8th scale size tracks with 1/8th scale size jumps too!

My Team Orion lipo says specifically not to use MRC chargers

I like my Astroflight 109. It can charge up to 9 cells at up to 8 amps.
