Maybe it is time to upgrade to an X-5. There will not be shortage of chassis for this buggy anytime soon. The handling is the same as the XX-4 (your present setup should work) but with a freer drivetrain and better motor cooling. The new squared version's body is also designed to clear the GTB speedo if you might be considering brushless.

With the X-5 you'll think your driving a XX-4 through the bumps, until you pull the trigger.

I loved the handling of the XX-4, but the X-5 chassis balance and drivetrain is just ballistic.

As far as finding a XX-4 chassis, I'd check around to see if any locals in your area have any XX-4 shelf cars they would be willing to part with.

i thought about it, but to be honest i might sell my xx4 and would prefer if it had a better chassis than the one it currently has. although in the future i might upgrade my xxx4 to x5, i don't really use that either. unfortunately there aren't to many people that run 4wd at my current track( hot rod hobbies).

I thought it was the XX4WE kit that is now discontinued again, not the parts for it. I have one too, and that's what I'm hoping. FYI, Horizon's site shows the chassis (LOSA9914) on Backorder and due in mid-November, so maybe you just need to wait a few weeks.

The XX-4 chassis is a very complex item to mould, hence a large and complicated mold.

From Losi's standpoint why would they want to invest in a new mold for a "old" car. Parts are still availiable due to them being smaller and less complex than a chassis.

It is easier and cheaper to upgrade from a XX-4 than from a XXX-4 due to more common suspension parts with the XX-4.

id switch to CR rears and crash backs in the front, but i dunno, i might have to do the conversion, just the 4x2 batteries. i guess it give me the excuse of getting the x6 too

I called Losi customer service and they said the LOSA9914 (XX-4 chassis) are on there way and the parts should be shipped on Nov 10th.

why do those fully sik car body kits on real cars only cost a few thousand to mould?

some people do once off kits, spoilers, wings, skirts and it only cost $5000 or so.

cant imagine a small little mould costing $50k+

Maybe they are less expensive because they are not injection molded and don't require precision on the order of thousands of an inch.

As ta_man says, injection molding with tolerances to the thousandth or less is a much different proposition than laying up fiberglass for a full size car. And after you get through making the mold, (check the hourly rate at your local tool and die shop) the high tech carbon-filled plastic is insane expensive.

Do the math. You'll love it.
