re: serpentsixty9 hey guys, i just ordered a mbx5 new, and i was wondering before it gets here if theres anything i should be aware of while building it, any hopups i should buy, or tips i should be aware of before and during the build? thanks

nope not at all that why you buy a mbx5 it comes with everything you need the hopups that are available are mainly for making the car stronger not faster i.e. thicker shock towers etc

Two part question:

1. what starter boxes are you using with the MBX5?

2. Will the AE starter box work with the MBX5?

I use the Ofna blue 1/8 box with the one giant 12V motor in it. Turns over just about anything.

I'm not sure about the AE box. It should work in theory, but I'm not sure how torquey those motors are. Also, the MBX5 has a relatively small flywheel hole, which some people have had problems with (if the rubber wheel on your box is too big, it might not work).

One very good box is Mugen's box for 1/8 offroad. The wheel is the right size for the flywheel hole on the MBX5, it uses two stick packs, seems to be pretty torquey (even though it uses dual...550's?), and is SUPER light, especially compared to the Ofna box I use with a 12V Gel Cell in there.

I also use the blue ofna box with the chrome lid turns anything over. I raced my mbx5 pro spec for the first time yesterday, and it hauls. I broke my own track record in qualifing as far as lap times go by a 1/2 second. Not bad since it was my first time on the track with the prospec and I had a year with the kanai series. Also I noticed that this car accelerates really hard comprared to my old k3. Also not one problem with the car not even 1 flameout Im running the os v spec.

A little more info would be helpful. What setup are you running now? What's the track surface like, and what kind of tires are you running on it?
