Default What charger for orion lipos

I've seen where you can charge these cells at a 2x amp per ah rate. What charger can actually charge up a 4800 like this? I have heard that you need a charger setup to charge at the 2x rate instead of just charging it at a 9.6amp rate.

If everyone starts listening to what you "can do" lipo's are destined for the scrap barrel. Manufacturers recommend charge rates for a reason. I agree charging at 1.5c may be ok but doubling the manufacturer charge rate.I Dont think the guys next to or the hobbyshop owner will like that much.
Most mainstream chargers ice, checkpoint, orion, lrp are locked at 1c charge rate for a reason to keep people from testing the threshold of saftey. rant done

In all fairness, Orion has stated that 2C charging is safe for their packs and is supposedly updating website and instructions to reflect that.

So, what charger am I suposed to use to charge these at a 2c rate and will it charge at a true 2c rate or will a charger like the astroflight 109 still be faster just because it takes less time to peak the cells. I wouldn't really mind not having the packs peaked since the voltage is very linear and I would be running two of the packs in parallel so 9ah instad of 9.6ah wouldn't be much of an issue. Is charging them at a 2c rate w/ an astroflight 109 an issue or do you really need a special charger w/ an updated charging equation to charge them at a 2c rate as I have often times seen.

I use my ICE charger and I just tell it that the capacity is more than it is, then I turn down the "Max Capacity" to keep it from going over. On the Integy Lipo charger, you just crank it up. They all charge to a voltage first, so it really doesn't matter much.

I charge a little over 1C (usually 1.5), just to save a little time, because I run multiple classes. It doesn't save that much time, but it gets the battery sorta full a little faster.

I recommend the Team Checkpoint TC1030 .. It's the upgraded ICE that can charge at 10 amps discharge at 30, and backlit all from factory

It does have some neat upgrades, but an ICE can charge at 10 as it is...and you don't need to discharge Lipos.

There are two really nice lithium only chargers that allow you to adjust to any current value you want up to 10A, FMA Direct Scorpion 2S and the FMA Direct Balancepro HD 6S. Both are balancing chargers, and have several features to avoid hurting lithium cells even when charged at 2C. The Balancepro is even more special because it can charge A123s too and at 10A. I have one and it works great. Go to www.fmadirect.com for more information. In my opinion, for the price, these are the best lithium chargers.

I forgot to mention, the scorpion 2S is about $70 and the balancepro hd is about $105. The only differences between the two is the balancepro can charge up to 6S and A123. They are both 10A lithium only balance chargers. The scorpion even has a pigtail adapter that fits orion cells perfectly. If you get the balancepro, you will have to make your adapter using the universal pigtail adapter.

this is gonna be a really stupid question, so I apologize in advance.

what would the purpose of charging at 2c be? simply quicker charging time? will it change the punch of the battery?

It just charges a little faster...not much faster, but a little faster.

Why not just use the Advantage charger? They also offer a smaller version (in case pit space is an issue), from their Avionics line (the link below). Is charging at double the norm really that important?

From the sound of things i'll just stick w/ the astro flight. Charging at a 2c rate means it will charge to like 90% twice as fast. Once it hits 90% capacity all chargers will slow down. The astro flight 109 just peaks them faster then the ice does and I don't have experience with the check point. However I have heard that a few of the upper end chargers are even better then the astro flight.
