Default Cooked my brand new Sphere Comp

Today while running my BJ4 WE for only the 2nd time since i got my new Sphere Comp 2007 & Vector 5.5 combo, the esc started to have a glitch in the power band after approx 1 minute on the track. I then drove it back to me to go and see if i could find the problem when the car starting smoking. As quick as i could, i disconnected the power to the ESC but it was too late.

I am now really dissapointed and i have no idea what caused it??

Does anyone know what would cause this??

I run BJ4WE with 78 spur, 17 pinion. Spektrum Pro receiver, SMC 3300 Matched batteries.

The ESC had the heatsink mounted on top.

The first time i ran this car/combo was 2 weeks ago and it went awesome with no issues at all. I have checked the drivetrain on my car to see if there is any binding in it, but it rolls smoothly.

Very confused and not a happy chappy

My first Sphere did the same thing. From new it shut down on me until it basically warmed up, then ran fine. After about 6/7 packs went up in smoke big time. I ran the same 5.5 vector 17 tooth pinion and stock D4 spur. I think there was a batch with firmware issues personally. I sent it back and they replaced it. So far so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets not start one of those stupid 'Novak vs LRP' arguments now. There's been too many of those already. Both are quality brands. Enough said.

I run my Sphere and 5.5 VECTOR on 15/81 using BJ4 drivetrain.

I think your first contact should be the shop you purchased the sphere from, they should know how you should approach a warrenty claim.

i bought a brand new sphereTC , installed it in my t4, carried it from the back counter where we soldered it to the front counter .maybe 5 steps ,the capacitor blew out the back of the chassis and smoked and filled the back with a liquid.had'nt even turned on yet . i called associated ,the number on ur box and they told me to send it in, a couple weeks later had it back and works like a champ.

i smoked 4 gtb 4.5 systems in a bj4 W.E. and they were all software related issues and replaced by novak. so i dont think the 'buy novak' logic really works. they all have issues.

The biggest differents is the Lrp puff`s blue smoke, while the Novak puffs orange smoke.....

I believe you could be lucky with warraty, because i'm waiting for more than one year for my LRP Sphere Esc, and i'm still waiting.

Waiting for over a year? Have you followed up with them at all? I had one Sphere Comp they out and out replaced not even serviced and they replaced two rotors I snapped one in my 4.5 and one in my 6.5. On all three seperate occasions I had my stuff back in under 10 business days.

As far as I am concerned they offer great customer service and stand behind there product.

$0.02 (no change required)...

I own 2 Sphere comps (one 2007 and one of the previous models). I have run them for about a year (every season) without any problems.

I did have a problem with one of my Neo motors, the 3-star and AE replaced it with a new one less than 2 weeks after I sent it to them with a detailed letter explaining what the conditions were when the rotor failed.

At the time it failed I was seriously disappointed since the motor was less than a week old and it was NOT abused, over geared or over heated.

The replacement has not failed me.

I agree, with the number of products that leave the factory a certain percentage of them are bound to fail for various reasons. I don't think either manufacturer (LRP or Novak) has a perfect record.
