Nope...dent a Lipo and it's permanently damaged. You can get soft lipos to live OK in a buggy or truck where the battery sits in a box, but when they slam into a post over and over, they die pretty quickly.

Better not drop it or drop something on it either. I've seen some great drivers have crazy butterfingers off the track.

i am doing this for my d4 lipos when i get them

heres a quick prototype out of paper of what i plan to make out of 1mm alum.

i got the dimensions of the lipo packs and added a mm for the 1mm casing plus a few mm height so i can put a rubber/foam grip so it doesnt slide back and forward. its also mounted so its more in the middle of the battery slot area and is about 8mm or more away from the drive shaft, so no dangers of binding.

Way to pay attention! (I'm glad *I* can read better than I drive...LOL)

The biggest problem is the ends of cells smashing into the battery posts...the top and sides don't really have a problem, the ends get banged-up.

But hey...you never hit anything...so you should be just fine.

i mentioned the holder would have a rubber/foam grip, and that would prevent the cells moving back and forwards. it'd be a fairly tight fit and it would surely hold without applying too much pressure to the packs

I know that I don't get hit too much...especially in the side. You can generate some serious force just nosing into a jump or landing nose-first. Whatever you can do to spread out the load on the front and rear of the cells will help...because they will move.

Great to finally here from someone with some practical life experiance, and knows what there giving advice about and why...ive done more lipo aircraft than cars. and know if you can save a lipo from a airborne crash, your doing well. most lipo tab are ali and when broken i hope you can ali solder and there never as strong(my tip as much EPP foam as you can fit)or carbon wrap the pack from fnt to back leaving sides open
nice work turbo joe.

Hi,

Does anybody know of or tried a lipo battery in their b4 or t4 that they did not have to modify to fit? If so what is the battery name? I don't want to buy a battery that doesn't fit in my car.

any help appreciated,
thanks,
Brad

Max amps 6000 drops right in. No mods. Their 5000 will fit too but it is slightly thinner and may need a little foam on tthe top to make sure it is secure.

I have run the 6000 in mine (and LOVE it!)

Brad, I ran the Orion lipo in my B4 and it fit fine. You may need to back out the battery strap posts a little unless you're running the thumb screws.

Good point! I though of that after I posted mine reply. I couple buddies of mine have run the Orion 4800's in their cars (RB5's) with good success.
