I just got the LRP pulsar 3 and the Orion 4800 lipo pack. Can the pulsar 3 charge the 4800 because in the little booklet that the lipo came with said that it has 4 cells and the pulsar can only charge 1 to 3 cell lipo.it also said to set the charger to 2 cells and 7.4v for the lipo..... Please help Im lost!!!

The team Orion pack you bought should say 7.4v 4800mAh. That's a 2 cell pack. LiPo's are 3.7 volt's per cell so you should be fine.

The orion lipo would be set on the 2 cell 7.4V setting. Whatever mentioned 4 cells must be describing the packs configuration of 2S2P. Which means 2 cells are in series, 2 are in parallel. How many cells there are in series is the only determining factor on charger settings.

The 4800 can be charged at 4.8 amps. Technically you can go higher but keep it simple for now. Most lipos can be charged max at their capacity. So 4800 mah = 4.8 amp.

Make very sure you are following the manuals setup for lipo to the letter. LRP does not have it online yet so I can't check. Make sure you are not set in the nimh or nicd charge mode. I am surprised that you were able to set it for 3 amp manually as most lipo capable chargers don't let you select it - you set battery capacity and the charger selects charge rate. That's why I say doublecheck everything.

Both the Duratrax ICE and the Checkpoint charger have an adjustable charge rate for the LiPo batteries. I haven't expiremented with it but I know that I can charge higher than that with those chargers.

It will go until the pack is about 90% charged and then drop in voltage. You will still get the punch but not the full rutime. This is completley normal. It should take right around 1 hour to charge your pack at a 1c rating.

It's actually 4.8A. Just about every lipo pack on the market recommends a 1C (1 time capacity) charge rate. Hence 4.8A for a 4800 pack like the platinum.

The Ice does not allow you to adjust the charge rate in lipo mode. It locks it to a 1C charge rate. The only way to get around this is to input a different capacity for the pack. Orion's MrBlack has stated in the Platinum and Carbon threads over in Elec Onroad that these packs are totally safe to charge at a 2C rate. Ice users (and most other lipo chargers) have been having to get around this by entering the pack capacity at double.

DO NOT LET THE BATTERY DISCHARGE DOWN TO ANYTHING UNDER 6.0 VOLT EVER

it will ruin your pack

i use the checkpoint tc1030 an u can change the rate of charge but for the 4800 i would leave it at 4.8 an make sure it is a cc/cv capble charger or dont bother. when charging the pack it never goes over 8.40 volts an the charge amp drops down to almost nothing when it is done just be carefull charging with that until u are sure the cahrger is working in the proper way for lipo or you will ruin it the first time u mess up

Maybe newer ones coming out now say 4.8amps but the paperwork included with my Orion 4800 Lipo reccomends a charge rate of 4.0 amps.

I am very comfortable using lipo batteries as I fly planes and heli's as well.
