Frank is completely correct here. PINK will NOT work on anything but clay (indoor). Its just totally different. Pink is actually slightly harder than red, but its not the same...

Here is the complete lineup of losi compounds:

Dirt (soft to hard):

white
red
silver
blue
gold
HT

And like Frank said, Pink is losi's only indoor clay tire.

Never heard of whites, were they like limited or just test tires?

They were a test compound. I've heard rumors of them releasing them, but nothing ever came of it yet.

don't use motor spray to soften reds... it doesn't work well and kills the tread.

Truck Taper-Pin Tires w/Foam, White, looks like your LHS should be able to order them now, LOSA7635W

Also, White 8-Ribs have been released. Due Late August, 2007

The Horizon website says: "The white tire compound offers similar handling characteristics to the traditional red compound with increased tread life."

That would lead me to think it was a little harder than red (due to the better wear). Maybe it's an "in-between/kinda different" thing, like the pinks.

What's the recommended compound (Losi or Proline) to use if you have hard-pack underneath, but a layer of dust on top that becomes a bit muddy/broken with between-heat watering? Something soft or something harder? Smaller pins/fuzzy pattern or taller pins/studs?

Thats awesome that they're releasing white. I knew I saw it somewhere... I've heard white was softer than red, but I heard that over a year ago. I don't know if the changed the compound.

Red Ifmar pins or M3 Holeshots. Those would be my first and second choices. Of course, just check to see what most other racers are using because there's absolutely no way to know what tires will work the best simply from a description of the dirt.

Great point.

I've not tried them yet, but I have read the Panthers are the next best thing after Losi. I emailed Panther asking them how their compounds compare to Losi's and they advised me that:

Medium Soft = Silver

Soft = Red

Clay = Pink
The first 2 are correct, Medium soft is Silver, and Soft is Red, the company that makes Panther tires used to make the Losi tires, BUT, Pink was not around back then, so Clay is kinda like pink, except pink will still work as a track starts to dry out, clay absolutey will not work, trust me I've tried it mutiple times.

Clay makes great slicks for high bite tracks.

Pink is slightly harder than red. My understanding is that the pink have higher oil content than reds. This gives them their special handelling chericteristics.

What's the difference in the pre-scrubbed tires?

"Blue (B): Excellent wear and grip broad range of use. Handles heat and parking lot surfaces well."

That's quoted from Losi's tire chart for on road tires. It looks like it would be the next firmer above silver(?)
