Stick Vs. Side by Side
Are there any advantages to having packs assembled side by side? I am having problems with my packs launched out of my xxx-4 during crashes... would it be worthwhile to take the sticks apart and use a jig to get them all side by side so I can use the ribbed side of the battery bar? Any help is appreciated...thanks.

that would fix your problem. You will need battery bars to solder the cells together.

Cool thanks for the quick response...I have had problems in the past getting solder to stick to the cells, any advice on getting it to stick?

40 watt soldering iron and scuffing up where you are going to solder on the cells. A lil piece of sandpaper or a flathead screwdriver if you are hardcore.:cool: haha

Don't use sand paper, use a stotch brite pad.

You can make a brace so it doens't fly out of the side of the pack. With the XXX-S we would take servo mounts ( I think RPMs or somethign like that), drill a simple hole in the chassis and mount it up. IT would hold it in from the side. Especially effective on stick packs.

Soldering packs
When soldering to batteries it is important to use a good paste flux as well as a hot iron.
I always tin the battery ends before soldering on the battery bars. After scuffing the battery terminals with sandpaper (or a rubberized abrasive which is what I use now), I use my finger to apply a small amount of flux to the cell, then tin it first. You then have to press down on the battery bar when soldering it on so it is contact with the cell. You really don't want any thickness of solder between the battery and the bar. |
