I think they have been promising that "soon" for 6-8 months. Kind of like the Mamba Monster Maxx.

I emailed caste to ask if the novak velociti motors could be used with the mamba max and they said no, but they were working on software to allow this.

I have both, a 4600 & 6.5 GTB. It is very hard to compare the two because they are very different. If you spin and roll backwards with the GTB, no issue, nail the throttle and go, the Mamba will hesitate. Smoother is a realtive term also, it would have to be tested with similar KV motors, same car, same battery pack, same track & conditions and 2 back to back runs by the same driver. I personally like the 4600, it is easier to drive for me, and the Castle Link software lets me customize the speedo any way I like.

Gearing my MF2 at 21/86 worked great but I ran into a couple snags.
During the main, I almost got rear ended at the start because there was a noticable delay before the motor spun and after running a 7min main, the ESC was about 165'F. The motor was only about 105'F.

What can I do prevent delays from a standstill? I have start power set to high and running a ton of forward throttle trim.
Does anyone know what at temp the ESC will shut off?

Have you tried the start power on low? it worked for me. The speedo shuts down at 200. run a black Novak 25mm fan on the heat sink. You can attach it with 4-40 screws.

I've ran my Mamba ESC over 200, no shutdown. If I remember right, it hit 212. I'll have to check that old post...

It was on a TC, temps were taken about halfway through a 12 minute run.

Thanks for the info!

If I want to run a fan, how should I wire it? I'm using a personal transponder so my Aux/3rd Channel is occupied. Can I wire it directly to the battery?

The Mamba is designed to run hotter for what ever reason. Novak's thermal protection shut down, if I remember correctly is 180.

S' pete

If the esc is that much hotter than the motor, it could be the battery, but in your case its probally the mix mached components.

165 is fine for a Novak ESC and Motor to run, and they actually recomend that tempature range in the instructions when you buy the GTB/Velocity or SS combo. But with a stock 13.5 ss (27t) the temps should not vary that much, between the motor and esc.

The difference in your situation is the Mamba and Novak were not designed to be interchangeable, even though they are similar and it seems to be working, kind of.

If it were me, I would sell either the ESC or the Motor. Which ever one you decide to keep, buy the matching component. You will have no worries, and every thing will work as they were orgionally designed. - Just my .02

Run the cooling fan as well.

Hey, I read that if the MM esc is hotter then the motor that you are likely under geared , motor gets hotter then you are over geared. That said i would not know about how different the 2 companies motors will re-act. Dan.
