I like this statement

Durango was before S4, S4 used Durango's narrow chassis principle, but thats where it ends.

steering geometry is different, bettery/motor config it different. different sus geometry.

the similarity is the fact they are both narrow.

Looks like we're going to have 3 formats to choose from in 4wd :

1st group : shaft drive, wide chassis, cells (3x3) in the back, motor in front (BJ4we and it's copies : HB D4, AE B44, Worlds proto ZX5)

2nd group : Belt drive, wide chassis, cells (3x3) in the back, motor in front (the "belt versions" of the BJ4we : Yokomo MR4BX, TRF501X)

3rd group : shafdrive, narrow chassis, cells in the back under the rear central driveshaft, motor in front (Serpent S500, Aero A-1, S4)

And to be complete : the specials (X-5, XXX4)
Since Losi now definately discontinued the XX4, it's not included in the list.

yes but I was just saying how similar they look at a glance, I never really looked at them hard.

I would never buy a serpent Again. Parts are mail order 95% of the time and expensive. They have always been innovative with the designs though.

I want one. I have to mail order my parts no matter which brand I choose. There is very little local support for electric offroad in south florida. I ussually just order parts like arms in bulk.
