If you put Mafield in a Kyosho he would still Quallify in the top 3. Same with all the drivers. I really like the BJ$ and will hae one some day but just because I drive one doesn't meen that I can beat all the losi drivers.
I disagree. Paul LeMieux goes to the Paved Nationals, and he isn't even close to Barry Baker's lap times, and both are driving XRAY's. Barry drives LeMieux's car and is almost a second a lap slower than he is with his own car (same setup on both, but the cars do not drive the same). The top 15 or so drivers in the world are all capable of winning most any race they attend, the winner is almost always the guy who got his setup working the best.

You can usually hear the guys who are up front saying "My car is working awesome".

Onroad is different than offroad though.

But if I drove either Paul's or Barry's cars, I would still be slower than both of them So it still comes down to being probably 90% driver, because even Barrys 100% perfect setup isnt going to make me drive as fast as him

Mark Pavidis, 2006 World Champion. At the 2007 ROAR Nationals he barely made the A main. If the driver is 90% of his success, why didn't he do better ?

We used to see Mark at the tracks all the time.

He now has a family and a different job.

My guess is he doesn't get the "track" time

in as he did before.

Travis Amezcua TQ's all 4 rounds of the 2006 Nationals.

He switches to Hot Bodies

Travis Amezcua doesn't make the A main at the 2007 Nationals. He qualified 17th. He didn't have much time to get used to the Hot Bodies before the race.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but it's kind of fun

looking back at results. Perhaps better than looking at the

Nationals, lets look at the Pre-worlds race, when everyone

who is somebody was there. This years Shoot-Out.

Travis finished 4th, 5th and 9th

Pavidis 9th.

Pretty good finishes for 2 guys who don't get much race

time in.

I think maybe I am not making myself clear. These guys are WAY better drivers than a yutz like me. What I am saying is that the guys on top are all so good, and so close in ability, that the setup of their cars is the main thing separating them.

I just talked to Billy Easton (2003 Off Road World Champion), I asked him if the car was 3% and he laughed and said "It's way more than 3%".

no, I was just kidding. My point is that the driver is the most important part of racing. Of course there is some setup involved.

I've talked to few Factory drivers and they say it can come down to who ever has the best day. That means that the cars, setup, and everything else is the same.
