Default Losi XX-4 w/brushless what gearing?

I have a Losi XX-4 WE with a Novak 5800 brushless motor. What would be the best pinion gear to use? It has a 86 spur gear. I am running a 15 pinion and the motor has thermaled on me twice. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck

I run a GTB 6.5 in mine & gear 19/84 (purple spur). Car has never thermalled, and is crazy fast. Tons of low end grunt also.

You may be geared to low & over-revving the motor. Toss a 20T pinion on there and try it again.

I RAN A 5800 IN MINE WITH THE 84 (PURPLE) GEAR AND USED A 19 TOOTH PINION. LIKE JOEY SAID YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN GEARED TO LOW. TRY A 19
OR A 20 AND THEN GO FROM THERE....

A 18 pinion will be okay for the XX4.
