Default help tamiya dirt tuned!!!

hey i just got my new tamiya dirt tuned motor (27t) in the mail. when i put it into my baja king and conected the wires and turned evrything on wen i acelarated foward it went bakwards!so i swaped the motor conections around and everything was sweet but what i dont get is that on the wires on my esc (1 yellow. 1 purple) and the motor (1yellow.1 orange ), is 1st i conected both the yelow 1s up and the others and it went in reverse. but wen i changed them over so the yellow on my esc was on the ornage of the motor it went 4ward and ran prety good, is this spose 2 be like with the negative and positive thing?
