Default Brushless vs brushed mod on the track

My local off road track is running brushless motors against brushed mod motors. The rules read like this

Quote:
Quote:
Mod Truck-

Scale: 1/10
Motor: any brushed or brushless
Battery: 6 cell NiMh

I am wanting to get a Brushless motor that would be competitive as far as speed and still driveable. I have a Traxxas SRT that I used to run a 13x2 in. Transmission is 2.72 (Same as Rustler) This truck is lighter than the rustler and a lot more adjustable. Any reccomendations? I am not looking to set any land speed records. I just want to be able to compete with the Mod motors.

look for a good used Novak super sport plus with a 5800 motor.
it will be cheap and fast.

a mamba max 5700 or 4600 setup would work great too. It also has built in lipo cut off. I have the 5700 and its really fast but controllable. sells I believe still for $180

6.5 velocity with gtb speed control would be the closest to the 13 turn double. GTB is really good.

I am thinking now that I will go with the GTB 6.5 combo. I found one on eBay but the price was higher than Tower and like $13 shipping

I like the Mambas tuning options but have heard quite a bit about cogging and herky jerky throttle response. If I were just interested in a high speed basher I would probably get one.

Is my thinking on this correct? I just don't want to get something not suitable to my application.

i use a mamba 5700 with 3200 lipos and its just amazing
you have to set it up right so it wont cog
and it will never thermally shut down like the gtb when you run it at nutty speeds.
on the start up power you have to set it at low and take off the plugs to the motor.and it will be fine.

Lipos are not allowed at my track. We are limited to 6 cell NiMH. I just realized That if I ever want to run in a ROAR sanctioned event that the Mamba is out.

I won't be suprised that it will be approved here. But if you find you will be running ROAR events, by all means pickup what is legal.

My mamba is not jerky at all.

The Mamba is far from herky jerky. Tuning options, battery options ( up to 6s ), built in lipo cutoff, what more can you ask for?

As for the Mamba being legal for racing, thats'a crock of shite if you ask me. What roll do the dimensions of a motor play in it's ability to perform?

Ernie Provetti is now on the ROAR board, so we'll see lipos ( as soon as his company, Trinity, comes out with one) and brushless motors legal probably next year.

the new gtbs have a lipo cutoff in them anyhow. As for the 6.5, run a sintered rotor and keep the fan and you won't have to worry about cogging or thermaling. And when lipos become legal at your track, you'll be ready for them Be Blessed

There's going to be quite a few "new" systems legalize really soon. Roar has spec's, answers to their questions, and now more info then they know what to do with. Just some time and they'll get it sorted. The "sintered" rotors are now legal where they weren't before....just some time.
