I used to race at American Hobbies back in the mid 80's when Larry owned and ran the shop. They used to be on Route 9 in the Pond Road shopping center and had a HUGE slot car track. Then they moved to the location in Englishtown next to RailRoad Salvage. Slot cars weren't doing so well so they got rid of teh big purple track and put in a carpet 1/12th track. I used to race 1/12th 4-cell oval on Tuesday night and road-course on Thursday nights. That was the most fun I ever had racing r/c cars. Out back they only had a dirt oval behind the building. Everyone ran a RC10 gold tub back then but I ran 7-cell 4WD modified. I was the first to buy and run the Kyosho Turbo Optima there. I got out of r/c and started drag racing real cars and motorcycles down at Raceway Park. But American Hobbies put in the paved track and an off-road track behind it with a HUGE driver's stand in between. I thought I heard they had trouble with the Landlord and all the garbage outside that guys left behind and then closed up.

Default address??

hey tony... what is the address for the Checkerboard track....??

i race @ barnstormers and wolcott raceway... need another track to go to....and im from the jersey city area....

love wolcott though, nice facility, great people and good competition, barnstormers is a lil tight, and the track layout they had for Mr. B's Bday, was definitely tight and technical, but it was kewl.

Did they change the layout since opening day? I'm not in the mood for doing 7 laps in a 5 minute race on a track that could easily support bigger lanes...otherwise I might go club racing there more often.

how would wider lanes get you more laps per race???? I do not know if it has changed. usually does but I'll go over and check it out tonight for you .

What I was trying to say was, the track was too small for 1/8, and everybody had to be pretty cautious when it came to the track. That track was far too narrow, especially for mains with side by side racing...I don't think two truggies/mts could fit in some areas of that layout...it makes for terrible racing. Plus a wider track would allow aggressive drivers to hit the throttle more too.

I think they changed it anyway. Was looking at the results from club racing and the lap times were significantly lower, thanks anyway.
