Default Idle issue/lean condition ?

I'm not new to engines but this one has me stumped. OS RG, great compression, everything except the hs needle has been sealed, oring on the hs needle is good. New car, new fuel tubing, fuel tank seems good( should be, it's new) , no visible air bubbles in the lines, exhaust pipe checks out ok. I even bought another fuel tank just to eliminate the stock tank.

Engine idles fine and can be as rich ( both high and low needles) as Trump but will idle fine. Give it some throttle and the rpm's come up but then it starts running as if it's lean and the idle doens't go back down like normal, rather after a few seconds the idle will come down .

Any info/help would be much appreciated.

Talking

its because its too fat on the bottom eddy !!! its burning off the unspent fuel in the crankcase is the reason why it idles high for a few seconds after throttling up and then letting off !!! make sure your high needle is plenty fat before leaning out the bottom to a good crisp throttle response !!!
good luck , monty

If you have the manual, refer to it, and put BOTH needles back to factory settings. Yes, the engine will be a little rich. Just as Houston said, adjust the high end needle first , then the low end needle.

Make *small* adjustments!!!!!

I agree with houston

1. Warm up the engine
2. Turn in the LSN 1/8 of a turn
3. Bring the vehicle to a stop, count to 5, then floor it. You should get immediate acceleration with smoke from the pipe.
4. Bring the vehicle to a stop. The idle should settle down to normal. If it doesn't, continue to lean the LSN 1/8 turn until you get good throttle response and consistant idle.

Good Luck.

also if you are running a fuel filter make sure there is no restriction in the filter... set the carb to factory setting and retune...

Thanks for the replies, I'll give it a try later on today. There is no secondary fuel filter.
