What Motor?
Hi, buying a Tamiya DF02 chassis kit (gravel hound) from tamiya, was wondering what motor i should put in there for general off road/beach/bashing was thinking of an 9turn motor (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLRE2&P=0) would this be any good? will be running the Novak GTX limitless ESC
Thanks for any help, Danny |
Danny,
I would personally have looked at a brushless setup since the motors are sealed and beach running would have worked much better then. A 9 turn is pretty hot motor, can the chassis handle it? If so, I would go with a checkpoint or trinity shock motor. something that doesn't gum up in the dust (V2s can gum up in the brush hoods) and gets long runtime between motor comm cuts. Ultimately, a brushless setup probably would be best. Assuming the cost of the GTX and a checkpoint motor, not too much price difference than just getting a Mamba max system. And you will need a lathe for the checkpoint still. |

ok i will have a look at the brushless motor systems, with the brushed motors what would the difference be with a 9t and something like a 15t ?
am i right with 9t has higher top speed and more torque and the 15t has faster acceleration? |
Lower turns = higher top speed, less low end torque
Higher turns = more low end torque, less top speed |
thanks nemix
the gravel hound has been ordered today :p should have it by monday :) the motor and ESC will be ordered on thursday next week, i think im going to get a 10t motor, the motor will be switched from my TT01 to my DF02 depending where i am/what im doing, the DF02 will be used on the beach (only when im on holiday) otherwise mainly on dirt/gravel and my TT01 is an all rounder :p |
since you dont race i would look into a mamba max 4600. will give you more run time and is sealed. wont eat brushes up as it doesnt use any!
|
what is the diffence between the 4700 and the 5700/6700/7700 ? are they different speeds?
sorry im a noob when it comes down to rc cars  |
You might check out some of these?
Every thing you need all in one company. http://www.shopatron.com/product/pro...51.17441.0.0.0 Here's mine. :D Lipo and motors. Every speed you need from slow to blink. |
Yes, that is correct. I don't know the exact way it breaks down, but in general terms, the way you listed it is correct.

Heres a variety of motors. The lower the number the faster it is.
The slower motors provide more run time, the 5.5 or 6.5 might be perfect for bashing. http://www.shopatron.com/product/pro...51.17441.0.0.0 Great products. |
the numbers on the mamba max are rpm per volt. the higher the number the faster it is. speed control can be programed by hooking up a usb to your computer and its 50 or more dollars less expensive than novak or lrp. only thing is though they are sensorless so they are not roar race legal
|
not too fussed about racing, i think im going to get the mamba max 5700, i think that will suit my DF02 and my TT01 for bashing, ill probaly buy a novak system when i get some more money, just want a decent motor before i go away
|
if you arent gonna race i think the mambas will be at least as fast as anything out there that is sensored besides all you would need to do is get a bigger mamba motor
|
do you have to "break in" a brushless motor? im such a noob
