Default Spektrum DX6

Has anyone run a surface car with a Spektrum DX6 aircraft radio? Would this be race legal since its still on the 2.4 band. Something to note with the aircraft radios is that they usually dont have a centering return spring on the left throttle stick, since they usually don't have brakes. Futaba has now come out with a 2.4 aircraft radio as well, for a lot less than an EXZES.

Here are a couple pictures. This is a picture just showing the radio.

And here is another picture of me holding it in my hands. See! It is like a video game controller now.

AAAH so nice
I wanted that version of the EXZES but couldnt get one and settled for 2 Super EXZES's that were the previous version to yours.I have one with a spektrum module for gas offroad and onroad cars and the other on 40mhz for electric.
The main reason i bought 2 was that i wanted to buy a Nomadio Sensor and convert the EXZES to Nomadio internals. But i am waiting patiently for Nomadio to release there stick version which is in the pipeline.

I believe the 2.4ghz EXZES is available now, has anyone seen or know of a place that has them ?

Are you going to swap your sticks razzor? Those look like the same stick assemblies as in the exzes plus

Just got my super exzess in the mail yesterday. Was much faster than I thought coming from Australia!!

Should get a chance to play with it tomorrow over at a buddies house. Thing already feels good, and spektrum is working perfect in it.

Won't be converting mine though, I like steering on the right side.

You could sell it on ebay. I don't think there are any listed there right now.

that type of stick cofiguration has been around for a long time. It's called "mode one". Now the angle of the sticks are something I havn't seen before. You can call horizon and have the convert a dx6 into mode one with no problems. I've had them modify many radios in the past. Here in the US we fly "mode two".

This stick configuration may have been around for a long time, but Sanwa/Airtronics must have never heard of it for their stick surface car radios. I tried calling Airtronics in California to see if the sticks could be swapped, and they promptly said no. They did say however that I could get an air stick radio converted to left thumb steering and to surface, but then they also said that the sticks wouldn't self center like a surface radio would. This upset me right away because I knew I wouldn't be able to use a default stick radio. Charlie Perez from rc10b4 uses a Super Exzes stick radio and he told me not to listen to the Airtronics guys, that the swap will work, and it did with just a little lengthing of wire.

Yes, once the sticks are swapped, it is default like | --
I am able to twist the sticks a bit just for personal preference. You know, I should really take a picture of it with the sticks like | -- because I am sure it looks confusing like that. I'll take a picture this evening when I get home and post it in this thread.

Anyway, I just got done looking at the Futaba 3VC, and it too looks like the sticks can be swapped the same way, although I am not sure. I assume that once the rear shell is removed, that if the 4 screws that hold down the sticks are removed, that the sticks can just be swapped. If anyone with a Futaba 3VC has ever done this, or ever taken it apart and confirmed that this can be done, please post it here!
