Default lipo charger suposedly faster then the 109

Do you have any experience with this charger?
http://www.fmadirect.com/Detail.htm?...044&section=38
the fma skyvolt
It suposedly comes w/ a built in balancer and balances the cells b4 charging so that it doesn't have to slow way down at the end of the charge like most lipo chargers do. It says you can charge packs at up to a 3c rating and peak them in 20 minutes, it has a 10 amp charge rate, not to mention a cheap price tag. Truly fully charging a 8k mah pack in 50 minutes after a 30 minute run would make things a bit more interesting.

That's the same charger as the old Scorption lipo charger that they sold for their special car lipo packs. FMA discontinued the Scorpion line for some reason though.

Everywhere I've read suggests 1C (4.8A for 4800mah, 3.2A for 3200 etc) as being the safest. My friend uses the scorpion charger to charge his Orion 4800 lipo at greater than 1C and the battery hasn't blown up yet. Probably the safest thing to do is to find out of the battery manufacturer/distributor thinks you should charge their cells at that high of an amp rate.

Hyperion makes a charger that will charge with their batteries at 2c. you just have to rememberthe faster you charge lipos the shorter the life of the battery. I do not remember the site but one company showed charging at 1c was 500+ charges and at 2c they went down to 300 charges range.

You are better off buying 2 batteries at this time.

I run 2 8000 max amps and all I can say is I have little downtime due to batteries.

I'm just trying to find the best charger for the money. As far as packs go I prefer spending $85 for some truerc.com 8k mah 7.4 volt packs w/ tabs, deans, shipped. They have a 10c rating so they are cheaper then most packs, but these little 1/10ths scale cars will never draw 80 amps of continuous current so the cells are perfect for the class.

I hope you have good luck with the cells. Let us know how they work. You get what you pay for and very few people are selling 10c cells for cars. Most people are 20 c and higher. I will be interested to see how they last over a 2 year period.

A 10 c rating means that the cells will ouput 10 amps per Ah. A 4kmah will only put out 40 amps continuous. Most companies are not going to go out and produce 4 or 5 differant cells. Instead they produce one or two because it is more economicaly suited. The 8k mah packs will allow you to operate on 80 amps of continuous charge so they are fine. These packs are assembled just like a regular nimh pack is. You can wire them in parralel or in series to achieve the desired voltage and run time.
