Default What weight oil in XXX-4 on rough track?

What weight shock oil in XXX-4 on rough track? i race at hotrod hobbies in Ca. and the track is rough because they have 1/8 buggys and truggys racing on it too, i have 30 waight shock oil and it seems way to stiff, i have the springs way out loosened and the car wont even bottom out from like 3-4 feet... what shock oil do u guys recomend on ough tracks???

The XXX-4 is not a very good buggy in the rough. You can make it do ok but it really never be really consistant. I ended up upgrading mine to an X-5 to get better rough track handling after fighting it for awhile. The X-5 uses the suspension of the XX-4 which is legendary for its rough track capability. The difference is night and day.

I saw the thread title and first thing that came to mind was...

"change the shock oil? no, don't think that woudl do it. hmmm..... how about change the car to a XX4?"

Seriously I have never owned a XXX4... but it's known that they aren't too happy on rough stuff.

But... do you have limiters that are preventing it from bottoming? What pistons/springs? Mabye it has like #60 pistions??? Probably need more info to help...

My best advice is probably to check out the setups on Losi's site and try one from a rough track...

You should look at changing the pistons and springs at the same time
front:
top of shock outside hole on tower, bottom inside hole on arm
black spring
30 wt. #5-6-6 piston
camber link bottom outer hole on tower (shortest)
-1.5 camber
#5 pivot
one-way
cvd's

rear:

top of shock inside hole on tower, bottom inside hole on arm
red spring
27.5 wt. #5-6-6 piston
camber linkoutside hole on tower outside hole on hub
-1.5 camber
-3 pivot (-3 degrees anti-squat)
diff (plastic outdrives w/saver rings)
dogbones

A good site to check out losibk2.com. I own a xxx4 and drive it everywhere.

agreed with others here. Guys I know who ran on a really rough track changed the pistons and went with 27.5 to 25 weight oil all around.

Default Piston size spec

Drift Buggy,
You say #5-6-6. Is that a #55 piston (Orange) with 2 holes drilled out to a #56 drill-bit size? Is it that much different than a un-drilled #56 (Red) -- never tried drilling pistons before.

You mean a #56 pistion with one hole drilled out to #55.

Yep, that's a 5-6-6...

Even if you put a rough track setup on it. The XXX4 is still going to be difficult to drive when the track gets rough.

Don't think I need a rough setup for the indoor track, but I would like to know how to go about it anyway.
