hi,
The axiom co27 with a 23pinon and stock spur that comes with the kit seems prety good. Also try the axiom x stock with a 21 pinion.

when using a CO27, don't go any higher than a 21 tooth pinion when using the stock spur, the manual recomendation is to tall.

When using the CO27 I had to go from kit gearing (76/21) to 87/16 and I was still coming off warm. I was oiling the bushings and the drivetrain is very free and no binding.

why would you go to the spur off an mf2?

what brushes and springs are you using?

What size is your track? Any pics of the track, that would help alot to suggest gearing, but I would start with 21/78

I went to that spur trying to get my motor temps down. I tried the stock brushes and springs and then went to F Brushes with stock springs. There were three of us trying to get the proper gearing and all three of us were within 2 teeth of that. I was using a brushless stock at first, which you're supposed to gear higher, and those temps were just as hot.

when you say warm, how warm to the touch of your hand? All motors get warm, does it stink really bad, like you can smell it without having to stick your nose right up to the can? Make sure you are not touching the motor plate, that gets much hotter than the motor itself. Stick with the 76/21 gearing, use reedy 767 brushes with red and purple springs.

I use Banzai CO27 based stocks in mine. At the Cactus I was geared at 20/78 all weekend. 100 degree weather, motor temps were coming off at around 200 degrees! Car was a rocket. In the early morning practice, temps were in the 180's. We normally run 767's, but were running 766's in the heat. Red and green springs. I run this gearing all the time

I race pretty much exclusively stock class touring car for my electrics. I know enough about electric motors to make them run. But when we're talking 380* after one run and 250* after the second run with noticably less power, something was wrong. It was time for something to change. The best way to get temps down on a motor is to change the gearing. Did that and holy crap, temps came down.

Just because that gearing works for you, doesn't mean it'll work for everyone. If it works for you, great. It didn't work for me. I didn't ask for my problems to be solved, as I solved them myself. I do thank you for trying though.

PS. When it's three guys, that are having the same issue, using slightly different motor setup's (all CO27's), and all solving it the same way, is it really a problem? It's not hurting anything to change the gearing that low, and it sure beats blowing up motors.

of course its going to have less power after it it 380 degrees, you heat soaked the magnets and glazed over and practically melted the comm. Once that happens the motor is trashed.

When everyone I raced with the past winter all used the 76/21 gearing to perfection, I would have to say it does work for everyone. You must be using a green spring, which will cause a motor to melt down, happened to my mod motor this year.

so has any one used the x stock....it is supposed to be a high reving motor and i would have thought that i would be a good choice on a wide open style of track
