I would discharge both types everytime. Nimh packs are less or not prone to memory problems (Im not sure if they even can get memory problems). But you should discharge Nicds everytime. When you store your Nimh packs for long periods of time you should leave a little bit of energy (I think your charger has a mode where it puts like 800mah of energy into the pack) in them. But you should store your Nicds completly discharged. The voltage in Nicds can rise when they are discharged and not being used so I leave Gecko Dischargers on my Nicds when ever they're not being used. They're about the diameter of a quarter and about 3/4 of an inch thick, I just put them on after I pull my pack off of my Deans discharger, they leave the packs at about .5 amps or something and ready to be recharged. They cost $8 a piece and you can get them from www.towerhobbies.com. Just search for gecko. Remember to get plugs for them because they come with none.
