Default Radio choices for newracer?

I'm new to RC but really interested in racing. I'm currently building a Kyosho 777WC and hope to get a REVO and Sportwerks Recoil for bashing and winter racing. I haven't purchased a radio yet and need some advice on which to choose? Any idea's? I don't want something with a bunch of features I might never use (M11 or 3PK look great but $$$).

A spektrum dx3 or 2 are very well priced and 2.4ghz so no worries with freq at the track.

W/ those cars all you realy need is a radio w/ endpoint adjustments and trim adjustments. I would get something w/ a 2.ghz system so you don't have to worry about changing channels. As far as picking the radio I would ask others if you can run a few laps using their radio. They differ by how far you have to move the wheel and ect. This way you can get a feal for which one you like. If you have been using a radio already then I would just stick w/ the same brand and get a better system. Odds are you will spend between $150 and $200 for the radio.

Futaba and Airtonics both have new radios with their own built-in DSM (spectrum) systems, similar to the Spektrum radio. Definitely check them out...

Definitely go with something 2.4Ghz. since going with my DX3, I will not go back to a regular crystal based radio system. I really liked the feel of the airtronics MX3, if they got a 2.4Ghz version, give it a look.

Main thing I would want to look into is the stock receiver size. you can get the spektrums with that really small SR3500 receiver, but those are expensive even used. the SR3000 isn't bad in size, but with some setups you need that capacitor to get it to work correctly. Not sure if you do with the Airtronics setup or futaba.

Thanks, I'm going to go with the new Futaba...everything I want, available, and really comfortable grip.

I used to run the Spectrum DX2 radio. I liked it, but was uncomfortable. So now I run the M8 and it is so much better.

I am all about my M8. You can pick one up on ebay or on the for sale forums on here for around $100-$150. Then just upgrade at some point and get a spectrum system.
